Does anybody just plug and play anymore?

my guitarist and I were talking the other day about overly complicated pedals and all that and we started joking that we just wanted a pedal with one giant knob labeled "awesomeness"...and just dime it and be done.
I plug and play all the time, mainly because I have no idea how to use effects effectively.
I often do that. I like to travel as light as possible and have as few cables and connections as possible for ease of getting out of there when the gig is over. Also i believe the sound is in your hands and heart more than the extra equipment.

Pedals are bliss. The only limiting factor is my paycheck.
That is exactly what I do, I have never needed more to get the sound I like to hear.
If it's an acoustic type gig then yeah straight in ... In other gigs I need some grit and grind and most modern solid state rigs need an overdrive pedal to really do that. I am however restoring a vintage 70s rig that should give me that sound just plugged straight in.
I plug and play, sometimes I use a tuner pedal, other than that I don't use any. Most bassists I know are of a similar persuasion.
Nope pretty much never just go bass>amp>cab. Boring. If I'm jamming blues with my dad maybe but I still like a little dirt when I do that so nope pretty much never. Nothing wrong with bass>amp>cab but it's not necessarily right either. Do whatever works for what you do.
