Does anyone else think the Grammy's are a joke?

They are a joke. Music is not a competition and it's the same people there every year. I hated seeing Paul McCartney dance to some of these new pop songs. Why do you have to be fake when all the eyes are on you?
Can you imagine what would happen to him if he said what he was really thinking? Of course, I didn't see what you're talking about, but a lot of fans can be militant. Also, often the worst artists are the ones with the most fanatical fans. That's something I noticed some time ago. My theory is that since they're crappy, they naturally attract crappy people as fans.

I'd be pissed too. You get hired to close out the whole show, and they cut you off in the middle of the performance and start rolling the credits? I was reading another article where is was saying that certain "stars" were getting up and walking out during the performance as well. The people performing with him were probably some of the only performers that night that actually wrote their song.
Paul & Ringo stayed until the very end.
I refer to watching The Grammys like watching a train wreck. You watch to see how awful some of the acts are. 
In the last 3 years or so, the awards shows have largely gone away from the presentation aspect and have really begun focusing on the live performances. The AMA's this year were great. This years grammies was the best in recent memory. I watch them as a concert..... I could care less about the fake ass awards.
What happened at the end was a tragedy. It was really looking forward to that performance..... Lindsey Buckingham sounded awesome with Trent reznor. Dave Grohl playing drums.....it was going places.

But for the majority, it's what people want to hear. Kind of like how people don't want a gust of air up the pants legs.
I have my issues with the Grammy's. The fact that I don't care about some of the categories isn't really a factor, different people like different things. However, the Grammy's, much like the Oscar's are self congratulatory proms for the cool kids of the music world. They have never accurately reflected the depth of what people are listening to, though they do spot certain trends.
I'm a metal guy, which has been downplayed and snubbed by the Grammy's for years. Most of the time when bands win them, they say something to the effect of "We didn't set out to win a Grammy, but thanks anyway." They don't mean anything, or turn out more fans, or sell more units.
The music industry as a whole is in a very difficult place right now, and its unsure footing was illustrated by the awkward show. People are becoming very particular about their choices in music. 95% of what people are listening to will never be properly represented in an award show like this. The days of a hand full of bands being everywhere are over. Some acts are huge, but their appeal isn't universal

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. He was performing with someone else at the end of the show, which I guess was going long, so they just cut out in the middle of his performance. He sent out some pretty angry tweets. He'd not known for being an industry friendly fellow to begin with.

Yeah, he played with Lindsey Buckingham, Dave Grohl and The Queens of the Stone Age. They were taking it to the next level, next thing you know, they're rolling credits and talking over them. It was a potentially great ending to a mediocre show that they made sure was lame. If rock ain't dead, they sure are trying to kill it.

The grammys aren't even good enough to be considered a joke, imo. I put it in the same category with sports and politics, fodder for the masses.
