I listen to a fair amount of electronic music, started in the 60s when I head
Switched on Bach.
I’m pretty old school in my tastes, Tangerine Dream, early Kraftwerk, Klaus Schulze, Morton Subotnick, etc. I also like the intersection of EM with jazz elements, like the
Acid Jazz movement in the UK which started with DJ remixes of 60s and 70s soul jazz records, early Weather Report and Herbie Hancock’s
Mwandishi period that preceded the Headhunters band. I never really gelled with modern electronic dance music. Aphex Twin did a lot of that, but his
Selected Ambient Works I do enjoy.
I plead guilty to making some EM myself in my man cave for over 30 years, with hundreds of hours that went into the trash bin and very little left worth listening to. It’s probably because my career in the computer industry led me to embrace MIDI early on.
