Does anyone own a famous Bass?

I believe that I own this bass.
All of the grain seems to match. I also checked out his Hal Leonard DVD and some vids of him playing with QJ.
It seems to be the same creature.

My boss from a few years ago has the PA system from the old Limelight Club in London. Everyone from the Beatles to Clapton to Hendrix sang out of that thing. I thought it was pretty cool. Still has the "Limelight" stencil on all the pieces too.

I own a "somewhat" famous cab. If any of you guys remember that one hit wonder "Come and get your love" from the band RedBone. They were a group of Indians. I have the bassist acoustic 361.

It's on the left hand side.

Along those lines, a friend used to manage a piano store in San Francisco and they got in the B3 from the Circle Star Theater after it closed down -- it had been there since the early '60s at least - everyone from Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Aretha, Ray Charles, etc to B.B. King's and Johnny Cash's bands and many, many others had used it. Was totally beat but had history!

It's the opposite but I used to own a natural Fender P I sold to Keith Moseley. He might still use it occasionally with Keller Williams. I posted it locally on craigs list and he ended up coming over my place to buy it. I didn't recognize him at first even though I have seen String Cheese Incident play at Red Rocks years ago. :rolleyes::D Way cool guy and a killer player.

The more I think about it, it might have been Cinderella. Regardless-- loaned out a cab, they blew it, they upgraded it, everyone's happy.

Over the Christmas holiday, I ran into my old guitar player and drummer from that era. I brought up the story to see if they could remember who it was that blew my gear and then upgraded it for me. Without hesitation, they both said "The Georgia Satellites".

I find it funny that they both knew beyond any shadow of doubt who upgraded my speakers after 15 years, yet I guessed twice and was wrong on both accounts.

Great song. They used to do a ceremony before each gig. Btw, we're not "Indians". It's not our fault Columbus couldn't read a map! :D

His modded '53 Precision was hanging in Bass NW several years ago. A guy on the fender forum snatched it up.

When we were at Fur Peace Ranch a few years ago, GE Smith told the story of how he was in a NYC music shop getting some luthier work done, and saw these PA cabs sitting around with "Led Zeppelin" stenciled on them. The shop was replacing all the drivers (blown or not) from the last Zep tour. He talked the guy out of a couple of the used drivers. Regrettably, they weren't replacing any of the guitars/basses from the tour. :D

Couldn't agree more Rockstarbassist. I bought mine because I got a great deal on a great bass that I play live. It just happened to be owned by a great bassist. If you want a bass that was owned by someone famous and have the scratch, go for it. If not, oh well. Don't rain on someone else's parade.

The pros have all the good s**t! Plus, I would think that a lot of rich famous people would probably take better care of their instruments than your average Joe. The guy I used to work for (well-known film composer) had a humidity controlled room for all his guitars and basses (about 150 of them). I even got to borrow a '53 P, a '64 Hof, and a '69 (I think) Ric 2005. That Ric was hands down the sweetest bass I've ever touched..

I also have an old DOD Grunge pedal that was owned by Wino (St Vitus, The Obsessed, Hidden Hand, etc.)... but i think everyone in the DC area has/does/will own SOMETHING that passed through Wino's hands...



A buddy of mine owned one of Joe Laly's, from Fugazi, EBMM Stingrays... now, THAT is cool.
