Does anyone remember the old TalkBass?

I remember the old TB. I am still here on the new TB. One thing TB has made me appreciate, since I've been on here well before the rise of 'social media' in the mid 2000s, is that even though things have changed it's still a sense of community with the right amount of 'oversight' to keep things civil. I recently deleted my Facebook account because I simply can't handle many aspects of what it has become - as well as the fact that it's dominated by ads and inorganic content for the most part now. Too much toxicity and noise, not enough real community and connection. TB has had its bumps in the road, but I am still grateful that it's here, and largely still intact in its original mission and vibe. Long live TalkBass!

Well still not a fan of the new layout and I took a break for a while but I have started to check in once in a while, it seems we have lost quite a few members that used to post regularly, not sure if it’s because of the new layout or circumstances.
I have noticed I am in more of a perusing mode these days, much less interaction/participation.

I've never bothered with the front page much, so whatever is going on there doesn't affect me much. I have links to the few sub-forums I regularly visit, and I use a computer only, not a phone. Having struck out back when I'd bought an amp off CL and figured that meant I had unresolved wanna play bass issues (I found one on the 'bay eventually) I have not spent much time in the classifieds anyway, but I did note that they were harder to find when someone on the DB area was complaining they couldn't find them. I did eventually find them and post links for that person, but it does not suggest the re-design is working well for those.

While this problem is not new, I do feel like Luthier's Corner threads are now far more prone to get exposed to people that just HAVE to weigh in with non-builder "advice" on threads that are in the LC, where it's normal, customary, and expected that yes, people are going to build or modify a bass, and "advice" to not do that, just buy a different bass, etcetera is frankly offensive. It's not coming from people with useful insight in the LC that are there on a regular basis, it's evidently coming from the posts getting trolled in front of non-builders who do not visit the LC.

It's been a while since the TB overhaul. There were a lot of complaints and people who said they were leaving. It seems certain folks (myself included) post less than they used to. But now that I think about it, I still remember the opening page, but that's about it. I've gotten used to the new TB and find it very easy to navigate.

Curious if any fellow TBers are still salty about the transition. Or have most settled in?
For me it was exactly the same as the last big software upgrade in 2014: mildly annoying for a week or two, then business as usual. So many posters have come and gone since I joined in 2003, but I still see familiar faces from the early crew quite frequently.

FWIW, I originally found Talkbass due to a cross link on Craigs List, but I very very rarely even bother to look at the Classifieds these days. Nothing to do with Talkbass, I've simply moved on to other instruments, build my own effects as needed (which is very sporadic), and intensely dislike online buying for musical gear unless I can fully vet it in person somewhere else first.

Before my hiatus from bass (and music in general) I went by "Sundogue" here on TB. I came back to the forum under my actual name, so the new format, although different, isn't so bad. I still see a lot of the old school TB members.

Like "video killed the radio star", social media killed the discussion boards by and large, but TB is still pretty much the same.

The more things change, the more they remain the same. Pretty much the same discussions going in the same manner.

Does anyone know a workaround for having keyword alerts? Like some kind of third-party site specific Google alert-type thing or something like that...

I REALLY miss that function, more than anything.
My understanding is that the TB Powers That Be had to remove that add in/function because it was riddled with security holes and if it was kept being used we would all have been well pwned by now. The vendor never made a new version.

Seeing as it has been the number one requested feature they were looking for another solution but I imagine that the hunt is not going well.
