I am unafflicted. I may buy some gear I don't have yet if a need arises (bigger amp if I end up playing out somewhere larger for example) but I won't churn basses and amps. You might think it is easy for me to say since I have only been playing bass a short while, but I have only one guitar - a '77 Takmine acoustic. I'm the original owner and I haven't bought or sold others while I had it. I own one mandolin - the first one I bought.

It's real easy to get over when you don't have the cash to get another one. After I got my Jazz Bass, and got rid of my other basses. I found out that I need to worry about my playing more(because I suck) then what bass i'm going to get next...So right now I only have 3 basses ones a Dean edge 4 that I turned fretless and the first bass I ever bought, so I guess it can stay...:D

do threads like this ever end? GAS is just an excuse for people who are less interested in playing an instrument than collecting them and trading them off before giving them a chance...hence, the classifieds here, for instance. :smug:

I dunno, I have to disagree with you on that one.

I started with a 4 string bass, and the minute i tried a 5
string, I was hooked, so the 4had to go. Then i tried a 5 string
Roscoe and decided the flatter neck was much more to my
liking than the rounded neck of a Carvin, so the 5 carvin went
and the 5 Roscoe came. Then a fretless model of the same
Roscoe came up on CL for a deal, so I bought that and thus
became totally hooked on fretless (almost never touch the
fretted). my last acquisition was a Zon fretless because I
liked the half-lined setup and the feel of the neck, and more
importantly, I liked the tone way better than the fretless
roscoe. So we will see if the Roscoe stays..

Every bass I have bought has improved my:

1) string count (4 to five)
2) general feel of the heck to my hands (fender/carvin's to roscoe
3) general tone (zon fretless)

NONE of the basses I have acquired have been because of
color, or wood, or specific manufacturer. ALL have been a
"feel" and "ease" improvement.

I keep the fretted only to ensure i play on frets every once in
a while.

Thus, my stable is now:

1) Ugly Warwick 34" scale 5 string for my son. (i like 35, 34 for his hands)
2) Roscoe 5 string fretted
3) Roscoe 5 string fretless
4) Zon fretless
5) EUB

And, i really do hope GAS ended for me with the Zon, 'cause
it is one nice feeling and sounding bass.
