I have a bass that I am happy with, have been for years. It's the only one I use. Didn't cost a lot, sounds, plays and looks great. I still look - even though I won't be buying for various financial reasons.

I am trying to sell my "big rig" as I don't need it any more. A good DI and a small combo amp for monitoring. That's all I NEED. I still look though.

I like to look and read and try to keep others from my fate. I also like to keep up on what's new, what the trends are, etc. It's a fun passtime.

I'm down to one, but my wife has one as well so there's two in the house, but that's much less than the ten I used to have. It feels great, life is much simpler. I think I hit a point where it just feels like I've been there and done that, I no longer feel the need to own every nice bass I find:)

I have a theoretical end point. Between fretted 4s and 5s, I don't need anything. I just need a few more fretless basses, a 12 string bass, a couple ERBs, maybe a nice EUB (maybe, gotta admit, Rob Allen nails that sound). Complete my guitar collection, upgrade my Adamas, get a 12 string guitar, and a classical. Then I'll have it all and no more need. Although the endpoint is a very big number!!!!!

GAS does not end for me. What has come to an end is a feeling that buying more basses makes sense at this time. For me, I really have more important things to do than buy basses for the next few years. Once I get my fretless, I will have to stop, not because I wouldn't want more, but because more basses just wouldn't make sense.

A new rig, however, will make alot of sense if I increase my level of paying gigs!:D

GAS is a vicious circle for me. not really sure where it starts, but the key elements are these:
1) buy a bass I've been drooling over for "x" amount of time
2) play said bass till fingers bleed
3) sell off one of the "other" basses as new bass envokes the "I don't really play this bass anymore" feeling

repeat steps as needed....

although lately, step 3 has faded, so the family continues to grow and the CFO (wife) has been giving me the "audit" eyes...wonder where I can hide the Z5 I've got coming in the next few days.

For me, it depends on what is the force behind the GAS.

If the force is one simple, like need to bury that drummer - once the solution is found GAS is gone.

The next level is harder, like want to add a sweet Precision - this tends to lead to deep research, and an element of flipping is possible until the more elusive goal is met. The demon lives in the adjective; sweet, cheap, purty... GAS is harder to kill at this level.

Then there is the ugliest zone of GAS - the quest to find a sound I'm too stupid to describe, but it is in my head and will not go away. GAS is really hard to kill at this level, and only the brave dare wander around this 'hood. This is the level where financial accountability may get dinged. Here is where you test WAF - Wife Acceptability Factor. Danger zone.

I'm not even going to touch the world of collecting, as my mind is wrapped around performance. Collecting adds another vector I'm just not even trying to consider.

Right now I'm content. I flip between my Afterburner and my LeCompte SSTS. I also have few other 4bangers that I play for a change of pace. I really found my sound with my amp/cab so no more rig gass! My Reverend 5L will be back online in a few days with a couple upgrades. I still gas for Rumblefish 4banger but I can wait for the right oportunity. I was a real dumbass for selling the one I had. :( Beyond that if something very cool pops up...........you never know :rollno:

Nope, not till the money runs out (or credit). Had 8 sold 4 back up to 6 and they keep getting more expensive. Think I'm gonna sell 2, but I already have my eye on another one. Think I'll wait till next year. Still haven't broken in the last 2.
