Does how a bass looks matter to you?

Obviously not. I've played a Ripper for over 30 years.

BTW, I was talking to Becky recently and she said Bill (Lawrence) referred to it as having "your grandmother's pickguard". Not his vision of how the bass should look, but Gibson had the G3 and Grabber and wanted to keep the cost of the Ripper down, so they used the same body and pickguard thing. At least he got his way on the pickups and electronics.

its gotta look pretty bad for me to not play it. I'll play mostly anything if it sounds good.

If looks are more important than sound I'm glad you are not in my shaging band. Amazes me how insecure people are in the world. The more of you the better so I can make that $$$ easier.

I guess I'm a bit shalow, but the visuals of the bass matter the most initially. I don't care how it sounds. If it's butt-ugly, I'm not touching it.
I feel the same way about most other things, as well.

nice if it's black. because i've never been seen in public in anything but ALL black for the last thirty years (maybe three or four times like weddings in the family i wore a white shirt).

but my only instrument since 92 is a maroon ibanez RB630 p-bass copy with heart shaped tuners... so i that means i'll play anything that feels and sounds good to me.
