Double Bass Does thrashing around while you play do any good?

I could see where chamber music purists would frown at the movements however, he is getting into the the music. Is that a crime? Doesn't music "move" us?

I think people the feel he is making a fool of himself are the uptight and uncomfortable types. Go get an enema. Seriously though, loosen up. Life is much too short.

A poster from the BG side with no profile and no real name with a gratuitous personal insult for people who disagree with him.
Gee, what a surprise.

Obviously this is all about the 'eye of the beholder'. Doesn't seem like he has any stand partners to bother in the chamber groups. Guy can play and looks like he's having a lot of fun. Can't you show a little leg in chamber groups?:hyper:

Ha! Definitely don't want to see tuneh's legs! It is a little distracting in this scenario but how are you going to tell him? Would you tell maisky, "Get a haircut! Stop shivering your head!"

So, I have been watching this thread for a while now. What strikes me here is that, it seems, the true test would be to just listen. How does it sound? I have long been a great fan of the pianist Keith Jarrett, and I have a really tough time watching him play. Conversely someone could be fooled by the theatrics and find that without them the music falls flat.

My two cents.

Initially, I was inclined to make allowances. Not anymore. The more I see, the more he seems to be a ham. This is not mitigated by being "hands down one of the most respected players". It's possible to be both.
I'll also say he is inconsiderate of his playing partners.
As far as the speech police are concerned, no, I can't remotely play anywhere near his level. As far as that goes, I can't play piano as well as Liberace. Does that mean I can't express an opinion?

+1.

I've seen Edgar Meyer do some pretty weird stuff on stage but never to gain attention, but always in service to the music. During The Trout, once, I saw him pick up his bass while doing a tremelo, move about 3 ft. closer to the cellist, so he could could hear her better.

This guy's ego is off the charts.

EDIT: And to add more grist to the mill, ain't no way, no how, he's on Edgar's level of anything, kindly and IMO.

Je well, I would just ask him about his moving... he can also talk and quite impressive...

As i got it back than from Jason Heath bass blog interview, everything that a Master like Mr. Tuneh (or Guy as backed_machine wishes...) does has its own reason.

B.T.W - look to me that Tuneh has also hard time with some guys out there:

Thanks for this. I'll definitely have a listen later; I love interviews
I posted this one http://youtu.be/aAGFDk0szwI on the "Can a teacher" trhead the other day. For Edicson Ruiz fans.

Seems to me (after listen to his interview) that Guy Tuneh know very well why he chose to do things the way he does (moving or standing etc). looks to me that the guy lives his dream and his love to his (our) instrument, i don't have the same feeling about some other performers today, I mean its all about CDs and money and PR and just to get more and more PERFECT, well Tuneh doesn't seems to me as someone who would run after any of those.

P.S. - Does anybody know where can i find a CD/DVD of Tuneh?
