Alabama !! Roll Tide
(edited)
Guys, I enjoy playing jams/open mics. My wife goes, but sometimes she really don't want to go but goes anyway. Her job is hard on fridays and the Jam is 8pm-12am . I usually go 2 or 3 times per month. I don't want to miss playing. She says to go without her. I go just to play, not for drinking or women.
How do you guys feel about this ?

My wife comes to about 25% of our shows. She's not really into our style of music and has already seen us plenty of times. I actually prefer when she doesn't come so I don't have to worry about if she's bored, tired, or ready to go home.

I have no problem being at a bar or club without her or her without me. We have mutual friends we do stuff with but also have separate circles of friends so I can have boys nights and she can have girls nights.

Why? If you're there to play, and you're not planning on hitting on or picking up any women, then go and play.

My initial response was to this post was disgust. But after a moment of thought I was wrong for that. If you feel that you can't control yourself without your wife present I would recommend making it a practice for any conversation you have with women at bars to be about how great your wife is. If I'm misunderstanding the meaning of your post I apologize.

Hogwash & balderdash, i say. As long as you're there with a purpose such as playing or seeing live music, and your intent is not nefarious ... just go and be glad you have a wife who isn't selfish & jealous. Ain't no biggie D

Exactly this, with bonus points for the first phrase.

Man, if you don't trust YOURSELF, that's pretty bad. I put walls around my marriage. My wedding band is a shield. I squash flirting once I think it has crossed lines. But I have no problem being in a bar without my wife. You would have to have something not of this Earth hot AND cast a spell on me to get into my marriage.

Unless you're suggesting the only thing stopping you from cheating on your wife is her actual physical presence I don't see what the problem would be.

My wife doesn't come to hardly any of my gigs due to her work schedule either, and it makes literally no difference to how my night goes.

Nothing is wrong with my marriage, married 35 years, maybe I did not ask my question correctly. Main thing is going to a bar to play without their wife. We ususlly do everything together. But she is so tired on Friday night.

And everyone is saying that they don't understand what the problem is.

She wants to sleep, you want to go out, and you both should be able to do what you want; the fact that you'll be at a bar isn't really relevant.

If she's happy enough for you to go without her, I honestly can't see the problem here.
Seems to me she's doing both of you a favour here - she's too tired to enjoy the evening, but wants you to do your thing, and trusts you enough to behave yourself.
I'd go for it - also, it's been my experience, after 26 years of marriage, that usually doing everything together, as you've said, is not necessarily a good thing.
Everyone needs a bit of freedom now and then, if only to remind themselves what a good thing they have.

That being said, if you do go, and end up entwined in the sensuous charms of a selection of gorgeous women who cannot resist a bass-player, at least have the common decency to take some pictures and post them here for us to enjoy.
