Doug Johns

This is a great example for the Groove in today's music thread. I definitely see the Marcus Fender tone, and some Stanley Clarke influence in the choice of notes as well, still though he does indeed do his own thing. Very cool stuff!!

:hyper: Want some more? [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Pay attention to the track called "Lakers"! Groove all day, baby! ;)

Well, I'm okay with Victa doing what he does! But the million + followers need to tone it down a bit, IMO! ;) I haven't heard many doing the Marcus thing other than Peter Muller. Oskar Cartaya does a latin version of Marcus (I'm kidding, Oskar does have his own thing going but the Fender bass sound is ever present in his voice).

I had the pleasure of watching both Doug Johns and Oscar Cartaya play this weekend at The Baked Potato in Studio City and at the Pasadena Bass Day event. Both great individuals, very friendly and down to earth.

Old thread back to life!!!! I just picked up both of Doug John's CD's and they are both smokin'. I've have pretty much stayed away from the "bass" disks for quite some time now, but hit up itunes to see if there was anything interesting out there to me. The answer was no until I heard this guy. Love the variety in the music and the skill level this kat has. Oh, and I would rather listen to that Pedulla any day over say...Marcus' Fender. :hiding:
