I spent some time with the bass last night and this morning. Being a passive instrument, I expected a bit less than my ATK could give me and that's what I heard. Highs are a bit better defined than the ATK, but the Douglas still has some of the nice Stingray burble I love. Low punch seems to be lacking, which isn't unexpected for the pickup in an $89 bass.

Thus far I've ordered a GFS MM Pro Plus (the Alnico model) in order to get more growl and low-end punch and a clone of a Stingray preamp (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160187020217) to make it into an active beast I can better control. I assume I'll need 25K pots to replace the current VV units to use with the preamp, but those are easy to come by.

I look forward to getting very close to the Stingray sound for less than $200 all in.

I got one, nice enough, I'm passing it along to a friend as a starter bass, it just doesn't compare to my Warrior or Smith..... do you want to know why???







Because It cost 89.99 dollars, EB's don't compare favorably to my ears either........ do you want to know why???






Because I like mine better thats why I bought what I bought.

Well excellent. This is certainly no Warrior. That wasn't really the point, though. It's a fun toy to tinker with for very little $.

Unless this thing turns out to be a true monster after a few upgrades, this is destined to be my backup bass for gigs and I'll keep it at our rehearsal space as a "just in case" bass. I might even pull it out for gigs if I feel like somethin' different or if we play in a scary part of town.

I'm sorry my sarcasum was lost, There is one regular TB'er who's post about the greatness of EB's and the suckiness of everthing else that has really turned me off ever buying one. I think Kurt and Rondo find quality products and offer them at amazing prices.

I couldn't agree more even at 2 times the price its a heck of a bass and with a upgrade or two could be amazing, best of luck with it. As for me I'll get a J clone from Kurt soon, sorry I missed the LTD2 b stock yesterday and pass this one to a friend.... I can't imagine if I had started out of something this nice.

as for the trustrod mine works, it does however sit deep in the neck, much easier to adjust with a good t shaped wrench.

Are you an adult? Are you seriously saying that what some other private entity says about a bass on an internet message board has any bearing whatsoever on what basses you choose to buy and play?

Yes, with whom a company chooses to do business with and how thay conduct that business effects whom I choose to do my business with. Does that make me childish or am I simply exercising my choice? I would not bash EB products, I think they sound great. In fact I don't bash any product, If you play SX, Fodera, EB, Fender......Great

Nope, can't be me. I would never subscribe to the idea that everything besides EBMM sucks. What kind of idiot would think one brand of bass fits everyone? I've been a rather big proponent of choice, actually.

And from here (dining room), I can see an F-bass, a Jazz bass, a Telecaster and a Strat, none of which were technically made by Ernie Ball.

But whoever he's talking about sounds like someone I'd like to know!
