Down the rabbit hole again - Project 4350

Don't say it Tim, don't say it! :roflmao:

I love this thread so much. :smug:
It was almost a Divine quote from Pink Flamingoes... "I kept it warm in my own special lil oven..."

Oh my goodness how that movie has never been banned in Utah, Texas, or Missouri is beyond my understanding. I suppose Florida (where you can't say gay) will ban it soon, and open the floodgates. Ohhh political, disregard. Hey look it's a joke. Please Joshua don't ban me, this is the only place online I am still allowed to... I said too much already. Come onnnnnnn, as the actress said to the lay preacher. Allegedly, we have no confirmed source.

Which reminds me @instrumentalist, do you want Divine or Pink Flamingo as your own special lil name?

I hope you have better luck with that shear-cut Yonico bit than I did. I used that exact bit on a couple basses to pattern cut bodies, and it was great (albeit terrifying to watch) for a couple projects. Now it seems to have developed a vibration that worries me, and it leaves a slightly "wavy" cut, presumably due to the vibration. What speed are huge bits like that supposed to run at? Is it possible I trashed it running it too fast? I've gone back to my trusty Robosander, which is slow, but guarenteed tearout-free.
Yonico do make a super nice compression downcut spiral top guided solid carbide cutter (there's a mouthful) which is like, a little over $100 but I fully intend to buy one and give it an impartial appraisal for the good of the group. It's the kind of one off cutter you keep in a fur lined container, but if it works, we are all going to suddenly "need" one. I just need to try it, and I asked and asked and asked but they wouldn't give me a free one. Model number is 34201q (1/4 shank) or 33209q (1/2 shank).

Thanks for the real world review of the routers. Mucho appreciado. Also, I suspect Fongerboard may be another stripper name but not in English. :smug:
Fongerboad was a typo on the alt.guitar.bass usenet group that became the defacto word for fretboard or fingerboard. If you think this thread is weird, then you never experienced a.g.b in its early 2000's glory days. I was like 13 or 14, and I really did learn a lot from those people. They would read this thread and be like, "ok this is fine, on topic and well curated. Good job. A refreshing change from the usual weirdness".

Oh my goodness where are my manners. As I am hosting this thread which has turned into a really weird place, I should give you music to dance to.

All I ask is that you don't touch the mirrors on the stage, be on time for your set or you WILL pay your stage fee with no exceptions, and please don't leave your kids in the lockers overnight. We have spoken to some of you about this already. Thank you. Have a great night, go out there and take every last cent.

Ah, Usenet. I had forgotten those days. I recall alt.music.yes quite a bit (I styled myself the Parallel Parking Attendant), and alt.gross (don’t ask), and - what was it called again - rec.music.bass maybe?

Which also reminds me of the old The Bottom Line email distro group. Ramblings from a much younger me are available there, if you can dredge it up anywhere.

Bonus Weirdness Points if anybody remembers Mike’s Madness….

Oh man I do kinda have a solid memory tingle for Mike's Madness, and I absolutely know I've read things there, or I definitely know of it, but I was about 13 years old and now it's bugging me. That's gonna bug me all day. It was the time when Harmony Central was a thing. I still have a copy of Bass Guitarist magazine from back then (2000 maybe, certainly around when I began to play aged 12) with John Myung on the cover. I'll have to dig it out. I have another with Jack Bruce, Melissa auf der Marr and... Nick Beggs, I think. Mark King too, I remember reading an interview with him where he had to duct tape his thumb.

John My whoooooooo? How times change.

Or, maybe not, because I'm starting to think it looks a little unbalanced in a 34" scale. I might chop the neck billet up and make it 32". I've always thought the full scale 350 looked a little odd next to the shortie 325, so I'm not really surprised, and it's been a while since I had a 32. Yeah, I might do that.

I think the 32" scale is a fantastic idea...may make it balance better as well as look more proportioned. Just my opinion but dat wood is too sexy to cover up with a print.

I think 32 is the way to go which means doing work again but it's not like I'm on the clock. I know what you're saying about the wood, but the whole WHAAM! thing was where this started so, I'll do that. Given that I'll use a vinyl, I can easily go back to the wood anyway.

This is a fun project that will, I hope, produce a useful instrument. But the WHAAM! stays put for now.

My weaponized alcoholic drink is a "Ground Zero". Two ounces of 100 proof rum (London Dock if you can get it) in a beer glass. Add half Heineken and half McEwans Scotch Ale. Last two who tried it ended up incoherently rolling in a mud pile out in the wilderness. One drink is all it takes to stop mere mortals. Oh and I think my profile name can double as a stripper name?
I know I said I'm not much of a drinker,...and I'm not,....but I went through a phase for a bit where I enjoyed Tequila. Which I found out is a beverage that most people say it disgusting and hate it. I thought it odd that for someone who doesn't really drink, the only hard liquor that agreed with me was the one everyone else didn't like. Anyway, the way I mixed it up became known as the gasoline margarita. 1 whiskey glass, 3 ice cubes, Tequila and a lime wedge.
At my former residence, all the houses were house, driveway, house driveway, etc, as per usual. Except mine and my neighbor to the right. Our houses were built where there was an old pass through road and for some reason, they put the driveways next to each other. There was just a 4' chain link fence between us, so we were always chatting and lending each other tools, etc. One Sunday, I decided to change the oil on my vehicle. He was already out in his driveway. He said he was working on his boat, but he was just lathered up, sitting in it, listening to the radio. I thought, seems fun, I'll join in. So went in and grabbed my new bottle of 1800. He was good with whatever fruity concoction he had, so I ended up drinking a good bit of the Tequila myself. Long story longer,... I never did change my oil. All I remember is laying on my back with my head against the fence, extremely pissed off that the Ford manual was only in French, I remember my neighbor laughing at me (which I didn't realize was "at" me at the time), and I remember eating half a burnt frozen pizza before passing out. Which was either in the basement or a bathroom. Not important.
So, I suggest you hold off on the limes. Those things are bad news.
There was one other time that I consumed tequila with limes in similar quantity and I was told that I asked my FIL if he still wanted to marry me.
That's never been corroborated.
