DR Hi Beams.. E breaks?

Guys—DR Lo-riders have been breaking at the winding post for almost a year. There were changes made in factory management according to my dealer, and the new boss is not keeping the tapered winding length the same, apparently either to fit string through bodies or top loaded 35" scale. Those playing vintage style Fenders or others without string-through are going to break a lot of E's and B's.

For the first time I have put DR Low Riders on my Sterling RAY34 bass. I also have them on my Peavey Scorpio bass, which I have changed at least 3 times since January. No breaks yet and I play pretty hard (attack).
On both basses I get about 3 wraps around the pole piece. I’m looking at the RAY34 right now and the fattest part of the E string has just started to curve around the pole piece. If it breaks I’ll report back to y’all, but I don’t expect it to break.
