DR Pure Blues Bass Strings...

DR just posted on their web page a single 120 and 130 available!

I'm super excited about the .130!!

When these become available, I will grab a set for my USACG P5 and will make some raw recordings and post some feedback.

My ideal string would be one that ages with grace- keeps its character and ability to intonate for a long time after settling in. Since I am not a fan of clankengankey bass tone, I am expecting to roll off the treble for these.

I have a set of the Pure Blues on my bass now that I just tried live and have really enjoyed them... I have a session this weekend so I'll get the chance to record with them... Really looking forward to that!! I will try and snag something from the session for you all to hear.

MF site indicates a ship date of 2/23- even if that is the case, I would rather wait and deal with BSO. I am waiting to change strings until they are available.

I'm needlessly speculating about how I *think* these will work on a very balanced/lively P5. I have my last set of LoRiders in the bullpen, in case the PB strings aren't my thing

Hey everyone! So I've been a long time user of DR Strings. Specifically Lo-Riders and High Beams. I tried these new Pure Blues strings and I've been really enjoying them!

They sound great! They feel great with plenty of bite, they're flexible but not flimsy, bright but not harsh and have plenty of body and fullness to them. I believe they will be available with a choice of .120, .125 or .130 on the B... I will be going for the .130

Definitely pick a set up and take them for a spin! I'm really really digging them and know you will too...
DR sent me an email saying they would be out in April, ow did u manage to get a set?

Well because I'm smooth like that! Lol J/k

I attended NAMM 2015 and they happened to have like 2 or 3 at the show and I was lucky enough to be at the booth at the right time!

DR has not released pricing to anyone yet. Nor have their released the "pre-package" set information yet.

One "big name" store has them listed but they are only going to be buying them as 45-105 and 45-125, they are not bothering with other sets.

Pricing from what I understand is going to allow dealers (like me) to price them at or lower than Hi-Beams.

I am hoping to have more information by Friday. They do not expect them to start shipping to anyone until March or April last I heard.

Thanks for sharing the demo- this was helpful.
A few thoughts:
Hearing the strings through the MM pickup gave an interesting snapshot of them. In addition to the pickup, the picking and plucking was pretty much between the pickup and bridge area, which gave a limited view of what fingers can coax out of them. I hope to hear another demo with a pickup that is closer to the neck blended in or perhaps a split-P pickup. Plucking a little closer to the neck would be helpful too.

The highs from the blues surprised me. If I had heard them without knowing what they were, I would have assumed they were steels- less upper-middly than the HiBeams, but pretty darned close. The Sunbeams seemed to have the fattest and most pronounced mids with the fingers, less cutting with slap, and kind of "boingy" with the pick. Jury's still out here. Need moar demos.:bassist:

Here's a snippet from recent recording session using the DR Pure Blues... The song is from an album I'm recording bass on... The bass is direct into the interface for this and pretty much flat aside for very little low boost on the bass... I have to say that I'm a steel Lo-Rider guy buy I'm really really enjoying these... Please don't mind the playing, I just did this real quick to get a feel for what these strings sound like... Oh and this bass is a Carvin JB5 (which is amazing, btw...)

Nice sound! The lows are at a good level, the mids give it enough of a presence in the mix and the highs are pleasant. Good playing helps too!

I'm gonna try them.

Agreed. I'm really curious to hear these vs. Fat Beams, those are my gold standard.

Thanks for the feedback Rodger! I can another demo for you with a Jazz Bass and playing closer to the neck. I used the MM because it's the only 5-string I have at the moment and I wanted to throw the low-B into the demo as well :)

Thanks for offering to do another- I'm looking forward to hearing more! It was very useful to hear a variety of techniques, and each string seemed to have a different mid-emphasis. Do the strings respond/feel differently under the fingers/thumb? Do the Pure Blues feel similar to Sunbeams in terms of flexibility?

I like something about each of DR's string types, but I'm still searching for something different for one of my basses.
