DR Pure Blues Bass Strings...

It sounds like a business agreement for exclusivity in the sale of this alloy for wrap wire to DR, not some ultra-secret formula that has been patented. (I could not find a patent issued for such a thing) If the wire manufacturer has an agreement with DR to make that particular alloy wrap wire exclusively for them, then I think it is a smart business move for DR. If this is the case, another string company could analyze the composition of the alloy and could ask another manufacturer to make something similar.

What I want to know:
can people with nickel allergies use it without a contact reaction?
Is it more corrosion resistant than stainless?
I would love to see an electron microscope image comparing the surface of stainless to nickel to "quantum nickel alloy".

I agree with Rodger as well; thanks for posting. I've yet to find a nickel set I've loved and as a longtime DR user (20 years now I think) I usually bounce between Hi-Beams, Fat Beams, and Lo-riders. I'm just finishing at 7 month round with lo-riders and dropped an order for a .40-.100 +.130B from BSO. I'll report back once I've got them strung up

Matt
I currently have a set of hi-beams on my bass, Ive loved wvery set so far, black beauties, neons, DDTs, all were great, I down tune to b so I really liked the DDTs....how are the Lo-riders? Compared to all of those

Compared to the Hi-Beams you have on now, they have more string tension due to the hex core and I find them to a tad grabbier under the finger and bit more aggressive in the top end bite. If I was tuning down, I would probably go with the Lo-Riders for the extra tension. They have the classic DR stainless mid-scoop so the bottom and top end shine. The package says "They love to funk" and that they do; excellent slap string with great articulation.

I don't have any experience with DRs coated series or DDTs.

I hope this helps!

It does thank u, I play DR exclusively so I want to try them all.I am really looking forward to trying the Pure Blues, the coated are great but in a different way, super comfortable on the fingers, I like to tune down so the DDTs are PERFECT for that, you tune em up and they stay put, and not a ton of rattle, I like the sound of a 5 string but have this OCD thing about having an even number of strings, anyway Im done rattling about DR, theyre great, they dont need me to convince anyone.......btw, looks like Marcus Miller has left the DR family, are Fatbeams Millers strings with a different name? If yes, wonder why he left.

The demos sounded great..as a long time Hi-beams user, I'm quite impressed with the brightness of the Pure Blues..I will be trying a set of these next..as luck would have it I need strings yesterday, so I'm excited to get these on my Ric....Bass Wizard, thanks for commenting on the feel..I like the fact that the Pure Blues have a feel somewhere between Sunbeams and Hi-beams, both of which(Sun's and Hi's) are smooth and flexible..
I noticed there's a lot of new strings out there now from various manufacturers and I would like to try them all but, I really like the DR's. they have been very long lasting and consistent through the years..good bang for the buck and I'd expect the Pure Blues to be also..

Having played 105-45 nickel LoRiders forever I've managed to move down to 100-40's over the last year or so. It was a bit of an adjustment to lighten my touch but I'm glad I did it.

I haven't played the round cores Hi Beams in years but I recall them feeling lower tension than the LoRiders.

This has me wondering; should I go back up to 105-45 with these new round core strings? Any advice from any of y'all that bounce between LoRiders and Hi Beams?

Went to order the new Blues strings on BSO, expected April 1st so guess I'll wait abit. Meanwhile, I went to my stash of old bass strings. I mostly keep them in separate envelopes and drop a note in stating what brand strings I've removed and on what date. Pretty anal I know but it's so I can ID them for later use or emergencies.

Well in this case the note must of fell out. I found this 5 string set that feel like nickels and they have black silk wrap at the winding end. By the black wrap, plain brass ball ends, could anyone say what they might be?

I usually use DR Sunbeams, D'Ad XL170's, Chromes or BB's as well as a few other brands in the past. So I know obviously they're not any flats or BB's. I forget what wrap comes on the Sunbeams. I removed older, Hi-Beams that came on my new-to-me Valenti #25, darn hard on my fingers those strings were.

These new-old strings I put on #25 still feel/look clean and new with a lot of life as I was changing out strings every couple months or so on a few basses. I will keep these ?? strings on til I can either order the new Pure Blues or just some more Sun Beams. Or maybe nickel Lo Riders for the first time. Thanks if anyone can help me ID these strings I just installed. Really digging this Valenti #25, sweet bass.

DR's roundcore strings don't come with silks. I don't know about low riders (in this case, the nickels).

black silks on a nickel plated string could be/are probably Labellas. Especially if the silk on the E and A is MUCH closer to the nut, than the silk on the D and G.

Hey thanks toptube, I believe you're right. I removed some Labella's from a US Peavey Cirrus 5 I owned few years ago. I forgot which Labella's they were, maybe Deep Talking Slaps or something like that. Traded a US G&L-2500 for that Cirrus; Cirrus is gone now too. Darn GAS.

But if they are those older Labella's they still have a lot of life in em. To me they feel much better on my fingers than those Hi Beams. I know a lot of folks love the Hi Beams and I liked the way they sound on this bass as well. But since I keep Chromes, Tapes, Nylon Flats and Nickels on all my basses, I'm a Wuss now, fingers can't handle full on SS's.

So I'll keep em on my 2 week old, new-to-me Valenti #25 (GAS again) til I decide what brand of new strings I want to try on #25 next. Still leaning to the new Pure Blues. Peace, e.
