DR Strings Club?

No number please, but...I just installed a set of DR flats on my MTD Kingston 5. Simply put, they took a bass that sounded good and turned it into one that now sounds great! I actually purchased two sets, the other to go on my Stambaugh ODB 5. I'm slowly making the switch to flats for all four of my basses. The other two (Elrick 5, Stambaugh 4) have Sadowsky flats. I really like the Sads but wanted to give DR a chance to impress. The DR flats seem to have a slight mid-range emphasis but I won't know for sure until the other set gets installed on the Stambaugh 5. String tension seems to be just a tad higher than the Sads but definitely not uncomfortable. Very uniform volume and tone up and down the fingerboard. The DRs seem to have a higher level of quality control than the Sads (LaBella). The silk is much less prone to go fuzzy and the outer wrap color is more uniform string to string. There were some QC issues with the Sads. Roger Sadowsky made it right but it was still an inconvenience. I'm impressed with these DRs...and happy. :)

I've been intentionally trying to find a string I prefer more than DR hi-beams so far no luck.

It never seems to be an issue of tone, life or feel with the other strings I've tried but it always seems to come down to the tension. Other strings just either seem so tight it makes playing difficult or so loose that they flop around.

Any DR hi-beam lovers tried out SS blue steels? or pro steels? or some other string that has similar tension as hi-beams? I'm not wanting to switch but I'd like to have an alternative on a secondary bass.

Just tried a set of DR Lo Rider Nickle on my MTD 535 and so far, I really like them. I play mostly finger style, and the nickle strings are a little bit warmer than the stainless ones.

BTW, the standard length strings fit just fine, as a result, I didn't need the extra long strings for the 35" scale of the 535.

Just got it from the US. I'm from the philippines and ive been waiting for these strings to come for a week. Finally Have it and I love the sound and feel of the strings. Closest i can get to having marcus millers gear! lol

Using it on my DAME neoclassicsm deluxe 5 J Bass.:hyper:

I've used DR strings more or less exclusively since way back when I played guitar. If a manufacturer (strings, guitars, basses, cars, drugs, etc) delivers consistently good **** I tend to stick with them until they don't anymore. So it's Ibanez, DR and Gallien Krueger for me ATM :)

The drugs part was a joke, but you all got that, I'm sure ;)

High Beams on my Fender Amer Dlx 4 string
Sunbeams on my Sadowsky PJ 5 strg
High Beams on my Lakland 55-94 5 String
Black Beauties on my 78 Fender p-bass
Lo-Rider Nickels on my Fender American Series P-Bass
Lo-Rider Nickels on my Fender AV 75 Jazz RI
Lo-Rider Nickels on my Sadowsky 24f 5 String w/Soapbars
Lo-Rider Nickels on my Sadowsky 24fv 5 String Jazz

I'm really, really liking the sunbeams. I think I'll eventually convert all of my sadowskys and one Fender to sunbeams.

I have two other Fender basses with non-DR flats.

I use a spreadsheet to keep up with my string changes.

What is the color of the silk on your DR Flats?? I purchased a used bass with flats on and have narrowed it down to possibly they are DR brand ... thank you

DR Neon Orange Superbass strings on my Fender Acoustic Bass. Love the sound both unplugged and through the amp. The Blackberry picture doesn't show the color well, but they rock.
