DR strings: crimp before cutting?

DR is one of the only manufacturers making round core strings. That's why others don't mention it.

none from D'Addario, Fender, Dunlop, Ernie Ball (EB....to the best of my knowledge). There are many "boutique" winders today that are so small I may not be aware of them, but I can't agree with the "almost every manufacturer" statement.

Either way, the OP should bend the string before cutting and not stretch them once on.

GHS Round Core Boomers are of course ro d cores, but those are a relatively recent addition to GHS's Boomers line which have always useled hex cores from the '70s.

I can't speak for LaBella or TI. But those exceptions still leave most bass strings being hex cores. I suspect that D'Addario and GHS account for most of the strings on the market.
