driving - Do you "signal" when changing lanes?

Do you use your turn-signal when changing lanes?

The only drivers that have worse reps on the East coast then us are NY drivers, everyone hates us but we at least have NY to look down on:laugh:. I do use directionals and get really PO'ed and sometimes lean on the horn when someone in front of me doesn't (which is quite often). I always signal even late at night when I'm the only one on the road, it's a habit and I want to keep it that way.
I lived in VT for a few years and tried out a car there with a friend and the owner in it while I drove, when I pulled out onto the main street in this little town there was a car coming which to me seemed like about a mile away but they both jumped and one of them said "Wow, I can tell you're from Massachusetts!"

The last time I saw something that stupid was in Thailand, a small delivery truck came from the left across 5 lanes of traffic, to make a U-turn on my right going in the opposing direction.
It was almost identical, except for the final trajectory of the vehicle.
It was also right beside a traffic-light, which would have saved the driver from making such a dangerous maneuver.

Thailand is a dangerous place to drive, but it seems like we're trying to catch up to them some days, LOL!

I was in a taxi here in Lima once in a huge traffic jam in the extreme right lane, the driver found a hole and crossed 4 lanes of traffic without stopping with just enough room between the cars to do it and was able to take a left at the light, if he had started it 10 seconds later we would have missed the light, he did it so smoothly I applauded him.

I always signal, whether I can or cannot see other people and cars in my vicinity. I know that I'm not omniscient and can't see everywhere. Sometimes other people or cars might be able to see me, but I might not be able to see them. So I don't waste my energy surveying the scene to detect the presence of others who might be affected and then signaling or not based on the result of my survey; I merely signal, knowing that, even though I might not be able to see everything, if my action will affect someone whom I cannot see, then there's a signal to let them know I'm going to turn. If in fact no-one else is there to see my signal, no harm is done; but I think it's better to just signal ALWAYS. YMMV.

That exact same thing happened to me! Except she blindly crossed 2 lanes to make a left turn, and instead of smoothly making it, I t-boned her at about 50.

Always look carefully, always signal.

Actually, I apologize, that was a lie. I connected my phone via bluetooth once. When I bought the car after a few months of deliberating between how much to fix my previous beater and whether it was worth it to get a newer car (as much of a headache it gave me, that 2.2 inline 4 engine packed a lot of fun for a very small dollar amount). I bought the thing and had to drive two hours, more or less, and stopped at a dairy queen off the highway to connect my phone and make use of the hands-free system to call my mother. My first words? "Guess who just bought a Honda"

I always assume the offending driver is packing heat, even if it's a blue-haired old lady.
