I was sort of teasing about ASCAP but some of you may not know ASCAP has agents that visit bars that have live bands and check in on how much the band gets and who's songs are being played. I don't think it's much worry for the band, it's a sort of tradition for the house to pay ASCAP from what I read. So if you do arrange your own gig, be ready for a surprise, it may or may not happen. Call it friendly advice, not a threat. I was warned about it in the 80's. I also hear many big time bands may not ping the band for a low pay gig.
