Danny is actually a friend and is from my home town. My wife went to school with him and played in the high school band with him (she played clarinet). Actually used to jam with him a bit back before he was even out of high school, was a monster drummer even back then.
He comes home from time to time unannounced and in the past has showed up at our gigs, sat in with the band I was playing in at the time a couple of times. Last time I really got to spend much time with him was New Years Eve two years ago. Sat at the bar with him and my wife (and several other locals) at the little local podunk VFW hall knocking back shots of Crown Royal (they were out of tequila...). Great guy, very humble and down to earth.
Interesting story FWIW. Back in the day Danny's family lived in a huge two story house in the middle of town with a 3rd story attic that actually could have been a third story had it been finished out. Dan had a large practice room his dad had set up for him up there, drum riser and everything, used to jam up there with him. Had a small PA system he'd jam along with for practicing. During the summer time he'd throw open the windows, put on some music (whatever he was learning or working on at the time), crank the PA, and play for hours. In the evenings you'd drive towards his house, around his neighborhood, you could literally hear him for blocks in any direction. You'd drive around the neighborhood and see the old folks sitting out on their porches in the evening drinking tea etc, listening. No one EVER called the cops or complained about the noise or the volume, he was that good even back then. This is in small town Kansas too.
Enough name dropping for one day.
