nice 'list' by all. the drummers i like the most are expired. but the drummers mentioned in the thread (who are alive) are tops!
Any drummer that can keep time will do for me. Add in some creativity and dynamic control, and I will be extremely happy. I've been through four drummers in three years. All of which either speed up or beat the crap out of their drums. My current drummer does it the least, so far.
How did I forget Jean Paul Gaster from Clutch? One of my favorite drummers from one of my favorite bands.
Terri Lyne Carrington, was a child prodigy a little younger then me but I knew about her when I got into a band.
Steve Gadd, he seemed to be listed on the liner notes on a lot of the first albums that I was buying.
Art Blakey, would have meant that I was in the finishing school for the next generation.

Also, Dave McClain from Machine Head, that dude crushes. Especially if we could wail on some tunes from The More Things Change.
Those already mentioned, Beauford, Alexander, and Danny Carey would all be high on the list too.

There's a bunch of guys listed I would love to play with/meet (Peart, Bruford, etc), but those guys would bury me.
My vote is for Quest Love. Dude keeps a mean groove without too much frill, and wouldn't rush or slow down when you purposely play slightly off-beat.
