He (my brother) got really good - but if you have a kid who wants to take up drumming, I suggest having a plan. Noise-canceling headphones didn't exist when I was in high school, and our walls were too thin...

Mom definitively put her foot down when I wanted to play drums. "Those things have no volume knob!". So I spent 3 years on guitar then got a bass. Bass was home.

During Covid lockdowns, after my drummer picked up his kit that had lived in my basement for years, I had to buy myself a kit to fill the empty space in the corner. (It just didn’t look right without it.) Anyway, my wife was also pregnant with our second daughter at the time and I had a running joke when ever people asked how she was doing,
“Oh…she’s having a very very difficult tough time….since I bought a drum kit…
The Pregnancy? Oh that’s going great. Drum kit?… not so good.”
