Love your PU placements, too, both give something different than the typical P/J or P/P found in the wild. The prototype Stingray has a split P in that spot, and your build carries that vibe!
That should turn out to be a very cool bass!!

Warmoth’s routes are super accurate! But, the pickguard was a smidge off at the neck pocket, and was leaving me with no wiggle room at all. I was able to hand sand the guard a bit and get the neck to shift a mm or so, allowing the strings to align better, over the neck (see first and 2nd thumbnail for before and after), while keeping the bridge saddles centered.

Also, the special order lightweight swamp ash body was so light that, w/ the Fender tuners, I was getting some minor neck dive. So, I decided to replace them with Hipshot Ultralytes and to pass on the aluminum Hipshot string-thru bridge (and the plugging, drilling, and addition of ferrules), and went with a heavy kickass bridge. So, the goal was to add weight to the body and lighten the headstock. It worked. Now the bass sits at any angle I want, and it stays put. Also, the Kickass bridge is nice because it is so long that it uses up some length of the strings, keeping only the skinny part of my D’addario E string on the tuner post. I hate when the fat part starts wrapping around the post! That’s why most of my basses are string-thru-body.

Recently scored this and am currently upgrading way more than I should. B.C. Rich Heritage Korean made Mockingbird. Gutted pre-amp, pickups, the whole works and am going with an SPB-1 Vintage in the neck and SPB-3 Quarter Pounder in the Bridge. Hipshot Kickass Bridge, Master volume, master tone and blend knob. I'll use the extra hole for a colorful kill switch, since that seems to be the cool thing the kids do now days...

Is the series/parallel for modes of both pickups, or to run one pickup in series or parallel?

Hiya,

Wired like a single coil Jazz, each pair treated as one pickup. I thought about doing a G&L on it with multiple switches to reverse phase of each pickup but that just made my head hurt and would have spoiled to clean look I was going for. If I want those kind of options I'll break out the one of the active basses like my L2K or El Toro, this one is simple.

It will serve 3 purposes. I wanted a TL5. I wanted a 6-string (won’t sound like the TL5, oh, well). And I’ve always been curious about double P pickup basses. Oh, and reverse P arrangements, too. Man, this bass will be a grab-bag!....

I am loving that color! I have a Projekt on the back-burner that, if everything comes together right, should be in a similar transparent burgundy-ish red.

I call it the P2000. It's based on Leland Sklar's dual P in terms of pickup locations. The body is custom and shaped like a 3-bolt L2000. Pickups are split coil MFDs and the electronics are stock L2000, so you can run the pickups in series or parallel, and active or passive. Other than the body and the control cover, it's all stock G&L parts.

I made the candy lemon body and a friend who is good at painting and woodworking built the blue body, then sprayed both of them. This is what the candy lemon used to look like before he refinished it. The body is a solid chunk of Mahogany my Dad had laying around.

Now that's some incredible work! Great job! I love the L2K basses and I bet yours with the reversed PP pickups are now something awesome. Are those the G&L MFD pickups that you're using?

G&L has started to offer their Matador bass again. It's available from their custom shop. Unfortunately, even though it's a PP arrangement the pickups are not reversed like yours. Also, the pickups that G&L is using in the Matador are their alnico pickups, not their MFD pickups. I wish they'd allow more customization out of their Custom Shop....lol.
