Thanks. It’s got 2 DiMarzio Model P’s, 4 way rotary switch (wired neck, both series, both parallel, bridge), and a Hipshot A style bridge. Those are the main hardware upgrades, Hipshot light tuners are in the future.

The second volume knob isn’t hooked up to anything, I just wanted to have it available if I choose to wire it like the original Rippers down the line. And it looks better with 3 knobs than just 2. So it’s just volume/tone for the time being.

Making the pickguard is harder than I thought it would be, but you can’t tell how bad it really looks when it’s on the guitar unless you really look closely at the edges around the pickups. Luckily when I was making it is was able to find a brand new Ryobi bandsaw for sale for $70 so that made cutting it out that much easier. It’s a lot of filing to smooth it all out.

Bill Lawrence P in the neck and SPB-3 Quarter Pounders in the bridge. She sounds awesome!!

The QP in the bridge position is great.

My Mike Lull build just arrived, double reverse P, passive with tone knob, 24 frets, alder body, birdseye board, nitro with no clear coat for fast and honest wear. Double P is the way to go.

My Carl Pedigo “Carlo” bass arrived. Super lightweight, at less than 7.5 pounds. Ash body in Markus Orange, birdseye neck with slightly vintage tinted tru oil finish, rosewood board, Lakland vintage P in the neck position, Lakland NeoPunch in the bridge, pickguard designed by Markus Lewtschuk (Area 5100). It sounds and plays great!

I had a Blacktop P for 2 days, sold it and bought my Epi Ripper PJ and made it into the dual reverse P Ripper it is now. I suggest doing it.

When you’re not a P bass guy. But you know how pickups sound and where to place them, you end up with a dual P with one or both reversed. And then, if you’re me, you can’t get to sleep after working all night.... cause you can’t stop playing your new bass that sounds like God commanding the creation of all that is!

The J has the Precision pickups in it, so I'm not sure how much of a difference it'd make, and if it's really worth it. I also already have a Mockingbird with the regular P/P setup. I wonder if I can make pickup surrounds and just route out the MB? Actually, I own a 3d printer, I know I can make pickup surrounds...

Yeah I had the P body with the dual J humbuckers. I waited until I found one really cheap on reverb thinking it would be the bass to cure my GAS. Bought it, hated it, sold it. Now my GAS has been cured with that Ripper though.

With some routing, a couple of switches and Invalid Link Removed, you could switch between standard and reversed split-coil settings, not to mention some kind of humbuckery going on.

Do it! I bought a blacktop. Liked the sound, loved the neck, but hated the body and sold it quickly. However, that bass is what inspired me to do the dual reverse P (DuRP?) set up on my precision, which rages.
