Dual P Pickup Club!

So are there any cons to making a 2 P bass? Thinking of converting my Epiphone Ripper PJ into a double P. When I got it, it had a DiMarzio Split P in the bridge so I thought about going with another Split P since each half is its own humbucker. So, 4 humbuckers with a double P setup.

With a typical split P pickup arrangement, each half of the pickup is a single coil, not a self contained humbucker. The entire pickup cancels hum because each half is oppositely wound and has opposite polarity from the other half. There is at least one exception, namely the DiMarzio DP-127. There may be others, but that's the only one I know of for sure.

But to answer your question, I don't think anyone in this thread is going to tell you there is a drawback to having two P pickups in a bass. I certainly won't -- I'm in the planning stages of making a three P-pickup bass, which, incidentally, is going to have three of the DiMarzio DP-127s on it.

I may be about to join this club.

Got this mighty mite body I am in the process of getting set up to complete the works.

I have arriving soon an EMG GZR P and an EMG GZR PJ set.
I also have a Wizard Thumper split coil.

I am thinking Dual P pick up - either 2 GZR’s or one of each (i’ll Measure which is hottest and put that at the bridge). I reckon i’ll Also pop a Tonestyler Duo 6 in and a 3 way switch.

This could be fun!
