Do you find the pcsx brighter than the pax? Most meg stuff with the ceramic and steel is supposed to be darker or at least not as bright.

There’s definitely more warmth from the PAX. But, how much of how the two pickups sound solo’d is due to location? I’d need to remove the pickups and swap locations to really compare their sound.
I messed around some more, swapping pickups back and forth. Thank goodness I used screw connectors for the pickup leads to allow easy changes, because I did a lot of swapping.
Contrary to my previous post, I have now settled on the dual DiMarzio P layout. I hear it now as giving a lot of clarity and grit from each pickup, and meaty (though not quite as meaty down very low as when using the Hot P) when paired together.
The Aguilar Hot P is a great pickup, but better suited, I think, to the front position as opposed to the rear, at least for me.
I do notice that a good few folks use the Duncan SPB1 up front and the SPB3 at the rear. The SPB3 I suspect suits that position as it scoops the mids a little, and has a bigger bass and treble balance as a result. I suspect that would sound a little bit more ‘traditional’ overall than what I ended up with. The DiMarzios are a gritty, middy, solid sound. No way I’m getting lost in the mix, that’s for sure...

Ahhh the pointy Ibanez basses of the late 80s. I remember that era. Too cool! Is that stock or has it been modified to be a dual P? I can’t tell from the pic.

I’ve got a Randy Jackson bass myself. I would have gone with emgs for that bass but I put an audere z mode preamp in and they don’t work with emgs. I really want to try all the p variants one day.
I picked this up at the Lull shop recently, they did an awesome job!
Sorry to revive a zombie thread, but I wanted to share my love of dual Ps! My main bass is a Reverend Thundergun with the bridge p/u (orig a MM style) replaced with a second Reverend 'split brick'. Incidentally, does anyone know of any other pickups that are p-style split in an MM style shell/shape? The Reverend ones are good, but I can't shake the feeling of wanting to upgrade. Cheers!

I am looking forward to sharing my own bass here when it arrives in January 2023.
I am having a 4-string Maruszczyk bass custom made.
- it is a 35-inch scale Flying-V
- it will be a double P configuration.
- the DiMarzio Relentless precision pickup DP296 will be as close as possible to the bridge.
- the DiMarzio Split P, both halves of this precision pickups is a complete humbucker. This pickup will be placed in the neck position touching the neck.
- both pickups will be wired in series permanently (no pickup selecter).
- I will just have a master volume and a master tone.

What made you decide to use two different types of pickups? (That would drive me nuts to look at.) And why did you decide to have them permanently wired in series, rather than having a switch?

Personally on my bass I just want it as simple as possible.
I think that that pickup combination will be awesome.
As far as having 2 different looking pickups,
that will not bother me.
As long as it sounds good I will be happy.
@LowEndLobster did a review where he put 2 DiMarzio Relentless pickups in a double P bass.
And I thought that the DiMarzio Relentless pickup in the bridge position sounded amazing.
I think the Relentless combined with the DiMarzio Split P will sound awesome.
The DiMarzio Split P is more bass low end dominant and will be in the neck position,
to provide the lowest lows.
So just me personally thinks that wired in series that these 2 pickups will be a good combination.

I loooooove that FGH Mighty Power 'Project Relentless Power'. I still have it, that's a keeper. I need to do a vid on that. I was actually doing another FGN Mighty Power mod (different instrument) but that fell to teh backburner. These are such awesome basses. Best of luck with your project, sounds killer! I think those two dimarzios will pair well together. I love the split P in my DIY Fender parts P project.
Thanks for the reply. Yep, I think these 2 pickups will pair nicely, especially with the Split P right besides the neck. I have watched both the videos that you mentioned and I am looking forward to this combination in a purpose built custom bass.
