You know there's enough real estate there for a third P pickup, right?
The 2 pickups are wired in series.
The 2 knobs are a volume and a tone.
I will almost exclusively play directly over the neck pickup as that is just my style.
I really think these 2 pickups wired in series will give me the tone I am after.
You can do three pickups with on/off switches in series.

Second...and this is no critique, just a purely personal observation based upon my own aesthetic sensibilities...but if they were mine, I'd probably swap the center and left bass' necks. To my eyes, and maybe mine alone, the darker fretboard/headstock looks like it'd be more at-home with the darker body. Same for the lighter body and neck.
If you don't agree with me, that's more than cool. I'm just rambling/spitballing/shootin' from the hip/etc...

Very nice! I'm curious to hear what you think about the difference between having the rear pickup standard vs reverse, soundwise.
Does anyone in this thread have any sound recordings of how their dual P pickup bass sounds when both pickups are being played in series together ? ?

@pjbassist I am also curious. And while you're at it, which switch/knob configuration were you happiest with?
I don't have any recordings, but it was a similar effect as a jazz bass wired in series, just starting from a thicker, middier tone. I liked it but it might not be everybody's cup of tea.
I used a 4 way Tele switch, master volume and tone.

I have used the bass in my avatar for 30+ years with the rear pickup standard and love it! But...in 2018 I discovered the pickup configuration with the rear pickup reversed and like it even more! I am not good at describing tone and the difference in sound, but it seems to be more balanced and full with the rear pickup reversed. All of the drummers and sound engineers have said the same. If the standard rear is great, then the reversed rear is fantastic!
As far as switch/knob configuration, I always have the switch set to both pickups, and on the bass that actually has a tone knob, it is always on full.
I will say, that my number 1 for 30+ years was IMO the best sounding bass I had ever played...until I found this new pickup configuration and it quickly became my #1. I hope that helps.
It’s one of my favorites if this bass didn’t have an extremely thin Doug Wimbish neck profile I never would have sold it .. deep tight and punchy with warm highs and strong thick mids one of the best sounding basses I have owned
