Dubious failure by Fender Custom Shop!

Fender didn't care back then and I don't think they care now.

This reminds me of the fans that go to scifi conventions and argue with actors of TV shows about the accuracy of their stories.

So — I did email the store, and here’s what they had to say regarding the “1968 Relic”:

“Thanks for checking in. It looks like FCS made a mistake. The spec sheet calls for a 66 logo, but that's not what is on the headstock. We should be able to get an updated Floor Traveller that shows the late 70's logo.

Reach out with any questions. “

so the decal was not a custom or special order. The “75” decal was in fact, a mistake by Fender Custom Shop.
Oh, wow, so you actually reached out to someone that was qualified to give out an answer on this specific situation??

I'm so proud.....:roflmao:

It’s all good and fun, dude.

the bass sells for $4,500 with an incorrect decal. For some, that’s not a problem, for others it is. Different strokes for different folks — no need for anyone to belittle each other for holding their opinions.
So this is just a demonstrator? If they sell it it’ll probably float someone’s boat. Heck, I’d play it.

No surprise there!

For a serious issue on a replica model.....which would never fly in the Vintage car or Motorcycle scene..

This thread could have been called the Sarcasm and Belittling Thread .

A tone I notice more on TB these days...:rollno:
Exactly. Woof.

Its disappointing but not necessarily surprising to witness the amount of belittling and sarcasm displayed in this thread. And of the people “cheering it on” with likes and reposts. In fact, the most ‘liked’ post as of this moment was the second, which made an incorrect claim. I suppose this is the state of the Internet.

if we want to go into more incorrect details...

Reverse Klusons would never have been put on a Jazz like this, especially a maple capped one. Klusons ended late 65, the bass is a replica of a "68", it would have been on the 3rd generation of tuner style (bigger forward turning nickel clovers).

The logo is said to be a 75 style. Wrong!!!
1975 still used the large font TV logo.
Mid 1976 is when the smaller Jazz Bass font came out.

:D

Haha dude it’s better just not to think about it. It’s a very very dense crowd indeed. It’s a valid point, and a good one and in the end you were right. That’s the funny part, all of these weird excuses about why you shouldn’t worry, but in the end you were actually right. Haha. Being detail oriented is very good in life. That’s what like, you know, gets you a good job and stuff.

A lot of extremely ignorant comments in here, wow. It was bullying and it was allowed.

@Mike Vee — Mike, you are spot on in your assessment. I’m all about detail, and my career is based upon it. And I take my performance of music no less seriously.

I was shocked the mods didn’t step in with at least a warning regarding the bullying with sarcasm and belittlement.

unfortunately, with a large portion of society it’s “truth be damned” :meh:

Great point with the reverse Klusons, @mikeswals you’re 100% correct

And thanks — that decal with the smaller “Jazz Bass” font did in fact appear in 1976, not 1975.

Again, I’m not sure who is running FCS, but these missed small details were unfortunately missed in a $4,500 journeyman replica.

"God forbid they change the radius, though!"

Spot on. What is TB if not a safe space :laugh:to carry on about any and all things bass-related? Thanks so much to the majority of posters in this thread for helping the rest of us understand which details are ok to care about and which aren't, lol.
And what’s funny is these people have such a strong opinion on what other people should, and shouldn’t think, an opinion that is actually much stronger and more intense than caring about the decal.

A lot of people are just old school/simpletons. There’s not much you can do about it.
