very sad day. but as i said somewhere else, sad for us. certainly sad for his friends and family on an entirely different level. but for duck himself, going in your sleep at 70 after a gig and a legendary, iconic career. not too shabby.

The word "Legend" gets thrown around far too often, but Duck Dunn was(and always will be) one of a very few of which the word doesn't do them justice!

<somewhat aimless rambling: on>
It's 2am now where I'm at, and after having heard the news this morning, I got together with some fellow musicians in the neighborhood for an impromptu jam session. We went through pretty much everything Stax, and had a few cold ones after in honor of Duck Dunn. I got home, and browsed around a bit more and had one news article about his passing on my screen doing some "gah, this sucks!" mumbling to myself when my wife wondered what I was on about.

So she reads the article and says: "I never heard of him, was he famous?" I responded that she may never have heard of him, but she sure has heard him. And so it was for many people, once you start listing the songs he's been involved with, they start to realise that this man was one of those people that achieve legendary status without ever really being in the spotlight.

We're having some massive thunderstorms right now, I'd love to think that it's just Duck warming up.

"Today I lost my best friend, the World has lost the best guy and bass player to ever live. Duck Dunn died in his sleep Sunday morning May 13 in Tokyo Japan after finishing 2 shows at the Blue Note Night Club."
