Duck Dunn has passed

Wow. RIP. I must say though, "died in his sleep Sunday morning May 13 in Tokyo Japan after finishing 2 shows at the Blue Note Night Club" seems like the best possible way for him to go!

Agreed. What a tremendous influence he was on me, and countless others. I'm 60, started playing bass guitar in '65 and to me Stax was the ****. Duck Dunn, Steve Cropper, and Booker T were my heros. RIP. Glad to know you were playing to the end.

I'd always heard of him but never really realized or cared too much (ignorant...i know...but I was a kid at the time) who he was until I wound up buying a Lakland Duck Dunn. Started realizing a lot of the songs my parents used to listen to and play for me as a kid had him on bass. Once I started digging into all those old Stax recordings and other things he did, he became one of my favorites. I left my Lakland at home last night in favor of my G&L and now I regret doing it! RIP!! :(

I am so incredibly bummed. I just can't wrap my head around it. When I first started playing bass I pulled all the records out of my collection that I loved because of the bass lines, and damned if 75% of them didn't feature Duck. Huge influence, not just on the world of bass, but me personally.

I've got a gig this Friday, and I'm insisting on a change to the set-list. You all know why.

I have no words .... With the exception of Paul McCartney, he was the first electric bass player whose name I ever learned. Even before Jamerson. His pipe-smoking persona was bigger than life. And unlike McCartney, he never fronted the band. He was famous solely for holding down the bottom.

RIP Duck. Thanks for everything you've given us.

I remember watching "Blues Brothers" for the very first time, and being blown away by the bassman. Never again picked up a guitar after that -- bass all the way.

Even more amazed when I realized I had been digging his grooves most of my life.

R.I.P. Duck.
