dUg Ultra Bass 1000 - Tech 21

Andrew, question on the mid controls. I know the mid boost on the low band only activates when you're running it "clean" but I see there's another mid to the left. Are you finding you like both mids boosted when the channels are mixed like your pic? Do you just use the filters to dial in where they are crossed over?

I know at NAMM dUg scooped all his mids out and just pushed huge bass and piercing highs but it never seemed like it was mid shy despite his settings.

Thank God! I definitely need a few things to sell after getting my new Spector before I buy this. However, I definitely will.

I must say, these credit cards for Sweetwater, MF, etc. are useless. Whenever I consider doing a promo financing deal, the item is not eligible.

As I understand it (and Tech 21 may want to chime in with a clearer answer), the idea with the two mid controls on the low channel is so you can scoop low mids from your distorted tone but bring them back to your clean sound without needing to tweak a knob when you switch from clean to dirty. Since the Mid Boost knob only activates when the low channel is soloed it gives you the best options for scooped dirty and non-scooped clean. I personally prefer boosted low mids with my dirty.

Brimstone separated the mids to high mid and low mid on the XD-1 for that reason and David from Brimstone has talked about the thinking behind that on here, which is people often like to scoop out certain low mid frequencies in their distorted sound.

Ignore where the Mid Boost knob is set in my pic. As we were finishing up I was talking to HandofSeven about the controls and showing him features and probably upped the Mid Boost to show it's range. That's not a good spot for it in conjunction with my Mid knob setting.
I was talking to him about the amp and he was staring at me with a look on his face that absolutely said "stop talking, I want to play the amp more" . :laugh:

Basically (as I was told) dUg was using a bi-amped system with various guitar amps for distortion with the low end rolled off and SVT's for the low end. The concept was for the entire sound to be in one system. dUg didn't like how the sound would change when he would move around the stage with the bi-amped rig. The top channel of the dUg Ultra Bass 1000 is the distortion side with the low end trimmed out. The bottom channel (when used on its own) is basically flat with the controls set at 12 o'clock. Mid Boost is a high mid control (around 2-3 kHz) but a bell shaped curve not a shelving type EQ. This is more a traditional bass amp channel when used solo. There is a lot of clean headroom as there is no distortion and you have a mile of headroom with the powerful output section. When mixed with the top channel the LPF is engaged and dUg prefers a setting of 200-400 Hz.

Tech 21, can you tell us any more about the dUg signature sealed 410 cabs? ETA for availability? They're mentioned in the manual of the Ultra 1000 but I don't see anything online for them save this brief vid on youtube of dUg with his prototypes.

The speakers that will be used in the cabs have not been finalized as of yet.

dUg is scheduled to come here very soon and make a final decision on the cabs.
