dUg Ultra Bass 1000 - Tech 21

Quite right. It's very difficult to achieve such tones......

As has been said before... you cant get this without PARALLEL circuits with their own tone and gain controls... with or without a crossover. Even an FX loop with a PARALLEL option would get you a long way towards this end.... but the only head I've ever seen with a Parallel FX loop is the DB750/751... strange because this is a staple in most better guitar amps... as is multiple independent channels in parallel.

Id love to get one but it's not in the cards right now. A preamp only version would be ideal.

+1. I would buy the preamp version of this. Today.

i'll cast another vote for a preamp version. keep it to 1u. my rig today is 2 RPMs; i'd love to have a dUg preamp similar.

I've gotta say at this point.... this amp drives me crazy. I'm giving some VERY grudging respect to Tech21NYC on this one. They KNOW that like me, many players spend multiple thousands on rigs to achieve what this amp does on its own... that's why it's FOUR TIMES the price of another amp in their lineup despite the fact their manufacturing costs are likely about 50% more. They KNOW people will pay it. Sadly, I can't afford it. Probably won't be able to afford it even used. I mean, even an RBI + VTbass Rack, crossover and power amp all together are half that price. But What a hassle.

Ugggh. I cannot BELIVE that I am re-evaluating EVERY OTHER PURCHASE I'll be making in the next 6 months to try and fit this thing in. Uggh. I HATE you Tech21NYC.

Isn't it the same price as their VT Bass 1000? It IS expensive, but I see it as about the same as buying a brand new 300w all tube head.

My biggest lament is the fact that they will probably be like hens teeth on the used market. Impossible to find and still expensive when you do.

I've got some basses lyin' around not getting played... I'm just going to suck it up and buy one. :)

Yeah. I joined a band. I bought a nice amp. It's a good amp, but I've been pretty unexcited by the sound, so I took it over to Andrew's to compare to a couple of his amps. The reason I'm so unimpressed with the sound of my new amp?

It's not a dUg.

Good God the dUg brings some mighty big guns to the table...

Indeed it does.

Your current amp is a really good amp but there's only one amp that will give you THAT sound, and it's the dUg.

Hey man, dUg's tone live WILL hit you in the stomach! 3 of my buddies left a King's X concert after 4 songs because the bass was puke-inducing. I stayed but it wasn't easy, I'll admit.
I got to see King's X around the time of...Mr. Bulbous when he was still using 3 8x10 cabinets and Ampeg SVT 4 amps and his sound was sick and huge then, but it wasn't enough to kill. And he was playing the Hamer 12 string most of the night. I can only imagine how it would be now.

I played that Orange OB series amp and it doesn't get you the kind of sound this thing makes in that video, I know this thing is pretty old news by now but I was listening to Kings X and it reminded me of this amp (and how much I'd love to own it for that bone crushing sound!)

About time!
I got the chance the speak with Dug a couple of yrs ago on the Progressive Nation at Sea Cruise. I picked his brain for 30 mins about his tone. He kept insisting that you could only get it by using two amps. But before we finished our chat he told me that he had some folks working on something for him that would allow him to use one source to achieve the same tone. Guess this was it!
Man, that's going on my Christmas List this year!
