$1879??? You can buy an SVT for that! I like Tech 21 and find prices for their pedals very reasonable, but they totally lose me with their amp pricing.

dUg Ultra Bass 1000 - Tech 21

That video with Andrew does a good job explaining the head. I was a little intimidated by the layout until he breaks it down. Once you understand what everything does the clouds lift on it.
Here's a couple of my videos. Forgive the quality…they're just made with my phone and I had to rush. I was at another booth and saw dUg pick up his bass so I sprinted over to get a front row spot.

Oh my goodness…I have no idea why this one is so small but you can get a good idea of the tone, again minus the ball rattling thunder that it produced live.

The price is high, but it is kind of a boutique amp. It offers specialized, highly processed tones within what seems like a fairly narrow range, so I don't see a whole lot of bassists flocking to this one. As for dUg vs. SVT -- apple and orange. In this case I'd easily go for more power and less weight, but that's a big YMMV.
The dUg would sound absolutely killer with many of the songs in my hard rock band, however the clean channel alone still sounds processed to me. My hunch is that if the clean channel is set for a more natural tone, it would mess with the signature dUg tone. Soooo, I'd worry about having to use another amp altogether for the non-metal songs in the setlist. But I'd love to take a dUg out for a spin, maybe I'm wrong.

Yeah, I kinda knew that but in the heat of the moment I froze. What can I say...
I don't know about that. The clean channel didn't sound all that processed to me but that NAMM setting is anything but controlled. I mean, stuff is blaring everywhere and it's hard to get a precise gauge on what you're hearing unless you're in a sound booth like Orange had. But time will tell….I'm sure I'll pick one up but whether or not it'll not my beloved Ampeg tubers off the top of the mountain remains to be seen.
When I got home I couldn't wait to plug into my V4B after listening to everyone else's tone. All I could say was 'ahhhhhh'.
Husky, thanks for the videos, and the info on the clean channel. The price is high so I would definitely want to audition one before purchasing... I'm not sure how easy it'll be to find one... but if I like the clean channel soloed then I'll probably open my wallet.

I'd like to hear the clean channel with the knobs set flat too. Andrew Barta says the amp is set how Doug sets it when he does his demo and the mid knob is turned totally off on both channels, and the treble and bass knobs are set to about 3:00 on their respective channels.
I suspect this amp has a good variety of tones available besides the dUg sound. Which is good because while I think the dUg setting sounds bad ass, I want to be able to get my own take on a dirty tone from the amp without sounding like a clone of him.
It is an expensive amp but I agree with Fuzzbass. Also unlike the landmark 300/600 and VT Bass 1000, which you can get the sound of with other Tech 21 gear for less, the dUg is it's own beast (right now) so if you want that sound from a Tech 21 product you gotta get the dUg, which makes it's purchase price more justifiable to me.

Pair it with the Barefaced RetroSix10 cab and you could have a 6x10 and 1000 watts and the whole rig would weigh 79 lbs.
Expensive but real back saving. I like the idea of loading in for a gig with my bass gig bag on my back, a rack case in one hand and a 6x10 cab in the other.

I did manage to get a shot of dUg's settings he was using. Let's face it though, dUg would probably sound like dUg whether plugged into the T21 or a Fender Rumble. Might be easier to get his tone on the T21 though.
That's a bit different than how Andrew had it set, thanks for grabbing that pic!

dUg's tone hit you in the stomach?
I spent the last full week figuring out how I could afford this thing if it came to market at around a grand. Never dreamed it would be twice that. Also, maybe it's just this demo, but I was hoping it would be a little more versatile.

Unfortunately Tech 21's amps have always been quite expensive.
We havn't seen anyone demonstrate what variety it can do yet, I suspect it's not quite the one trick amp it's been shown as so far. But at the same time, it's design is pretty specific to giving some form of distorted top end so I doubt it'll be the amp for all types of music.
