dUg Ultra Bass 1000 - Tech 21

Holy cow, I saw King's X twice in this nightclub that held about 650 around the times their 4th album and Dogman came out, and dUg had two SVT's, two Dual Showmans, and 4 810e's. They were all turned on, too. First show he was loud but reasonable. Second show he was so loud it hurt my spleen. Love King's X and dUg. I do not get blowing out a club that holds 650 to that level. I wonder if it had to do with them being on tour by themselves the first time, then the second time they were on an arena tour with Pearl Jam and were playing this club on an off night.

I heard Mahavishnu Orchestra in a room about 2/3 that size on their first tour. They had their stadium rigs (have to assume that's all), and it sounded really good outside. It was definitely risky inside, and we had tix. I was cold (upstate NY in Jan) but I can still hear today. I saw them with the same rigs outdoors at Tanglewood about 6 mos. later. Yeesh. Talk about overkill.

I don't know, Paul. Any amp that can make pick technique on a PJ sound that extreme has some potential in terms of tonal adjustment range, at least.

i've seen kings x many times - when i lived in houston and elsewhere. they're incredible. dug's tone is monsterous. i don't think i'll be getting this head as i'm about as dialed in as i can get. this is cool, though. congrats, dug!! great post.

So last July my old band had a chance to open for Kings X, so I parked my happy @55 about 15 feet from Dugs rig during sound check. At that time it was the parallel Axe-FX/SVTII, Axe FFX was DI, and SVTII was miced.

It sounded like swishy @55 out front. Sub sonics and upper mid swirl like an overdriven 12 string, but no punch.

Then the rest of the band kicked in, and it was a monstrous wall of rock. It's all about the BAND mix :)
