looking for a bassist.

must be hip
wear skinny jeans
be able to sing
be a fan of dr. dog, the beach boys, benji hughes, tom petty, and know about pitchfork.

i represent a band that has toured all states east of the mississippi, have just returned from the EU on a two week tour, and have been featured on radio stations such as npr. be cool.

write if interested.

I wrote to this guy, mostly out of boredom. He's got a lot of really good Indie/Americana type stuff and has hooked into his band an old guy who formerly toured with REM and Hootie. Based on the music, I'd play with him. I'm skinny and "look the part." Here's our email exchange:

Hi,
I'm curious about your Craigslist posting for a bass player. My 501s fit the way Mr. Strauss intended; they're not painted-on-tight. My vintage tees, however, will make you look like you shop at Abercrombie and Fitch.
But I'd rather talk about music than clothes. You can get a good sense of my abilities at Link Removed Skip through the interview parts to find four tunes beginning at :30, 7:20, 11:15, and 21:50.
I like to hold down the bottom end and give a song the bassline it needs. I'm also pretty go-with-the-flow and don't need to control things. My amps are Ampegs from the 70s, and I play a Precision Bass fingerstyle with flatwound strings.
Can you send me some samples of your band in action and see if we might have a fit?
Many thanks,
Rusty Miller

nice.

abercrombie and fitch? uh oh. hehe

Patrick,

It's been 3ish years since I saw Luego play in a courtyard on campus, and I gotta say I'm stunned by your progress. Color me interested, to be sure. Tell me what you're looking for in a bassist, what kind of role you want to fill. Is Jeff staying on to collaborate, or are his trousers too loose for the band? ;-) Much respect for that guy.

Piqued,

Rusty

jeff is my shepherd. producer, brother. helps me flesh out arrangements. he'll still be a collaborator. he go the vibe of jc, it don't matter what he wears. but yeah, i'm trying to build a steady live band...jeff's the lynchpin in 8 bands. you know, looking or some fresh faces, like you. let's meet up.

ps - i'm sure i sucked 3 years ago. what campus you see me?

Hey Patrick,

I can understand your immersion. Good on ya, as the Aussies say.

In my former life I was a professional bicycle racer. Competed in 38 states and 3 continents. Consumed by the passion, I scraped by and lived out of my car and surfed couches and lived the life. Basically a touring musician's life, minus the debauchery. In the end, trying to make a living out of it made it a little less fun.

So now the passion for making music in bands. I'm happy that I can work a day job, not have to worry about how the rent's gonna get paid, and spend my free time on the passion. I've got a flexible-enough setup that I've never had to decline a triangle-area gig, and I've built up enough vacation that a weekish-long tour is not out of the question. I can take off two weeks to go to Europe, but I'm not gonna be able to uproot and move to Cali with the band to try out a new scene.

I like to mediate, pake peace, bring people together so that they can see each others' perspectives. So in uniting the drums with the melodic instruments, bass suits my personality as well.

While I like to leave a gig with more money than it cost me to get there, what I want out of music is the experience. That magical flow state you get from time to time when all you're aware of in the universe is music, when you're so immersed in a song that you lose your sense of self. I like performing in front of crowds. I like being looked at. I like the telepathic kinship I can forge with a tasteful drummer. And I like to make womens' butts wiggle.

If this suits, let's keep talking. I'm pretty free next week.

Cheers,

Rusty

what do you look like?
let's keep talking

My momma says I am one handsome devil. Never been in a band with a minimum standard of beauty, though.

Here's one that I find funny: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Let’s play some RUSH (Sac and surrounding)

Pro level drummer and guitarist seek vocalist/bassist/synthesist (one person) to complete a Rush tribute band. Bass chops and ability to sing in Geddy's range are most critical. Synth work is not demanding.

If you are so inclined, this is a great opportunity. Drums and guitar sound very authentic–all parts and sounds are accurate, great energy and great gear.

Rehearsals will be in Sacramento at an in-home studio. Meetings will be infrequent, so don't let the drive stop you if you are outside the area. One rehearsal per month, if that. Would like to start performing in six months to a year.

We are grownups with families and real jobs. We're looking for a talented but down-to-earth partner.

Really? That ad pops up every few months for a LONG while now. I wonder why they're having trouble finding someone who'll fit the bill???

:rollno:

We are Sustain, and we are looking for the right pieces for our band.. To compare us to any band that is 'out there' now, it would go something like this; Alice In Chains, Disturbed, Godsmack, Tool, Mudvayne, Slipknot, Metallica... Yeah Well, Something Like That, Lol.. _____________ / Vocalist- <<<==========='THIS COULD BE YOU' (no screamo vocalist)
Marty / Guitarist
_____________ / Bassist- <<<==========='THIS COULD BE YOU'
Jeff / Dummer

Never knew headlining a local bar was a great accomplishment. I love how he stops mid-sentence here and completely changes the subject "We also have a Facebook but that is in the process of, but we do have music posted on our myspace located in the Videos section.."

Where are all the good muscians? I have posted on this site for the past 3 months and have found nothing but mansy-pansie, lounge lizard, folk/accoustic, loud obnoxious, can you turn it down, out of tune, and generally suck ass playing so called muscians. What has happened to the local music scene? I am an excellent mature dependable drummer with pro gear and a practice place who is just looking for decent muscians that know how to rock. I have played in area bands over the past 20 years. I am adept at playing classic rock and blues and interested in originals. I would like to play out a couple times a month but am more interested in just having fun playing good tight music.

This guy needs to get laid or something.

He does make a good point, though. Lots of idiots posting on CL out there.

I think it's an aftermath of Guitar Hero / Rock Band. I believe we will see a lot of kids who got into playing after these games, with probably a few good ones, and probably a lot of suckos.

I am glad I am middle-aged. We can post ads like "sucky bassists looking for sucky band" and then be happy, even gig and have fun.

These poor kids still have high hopes. Life will break them. Ah, to be 15 again...

This guy is an armature, be careful.

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

You wanted the best, here I am (Mesa)

Armature on the brink of serious STARDOM! All my friends tell me I should be a cheerleader rather than a guitarist but, I know something they don’t. It is all a matter of being so self-absorbed that I not only fool myself, I create a mirage that fools even the most critical ear. So my chops are below standard, I use to have great hair back in the day and looked really cool despite my guitar being pulled out of intonation due to my grip and lack of touch. I am a METAL GOD and have something to prove to not only myself, I need to fulfill the drool stained scribbling I still reminisce over inscribed in my year book from my drunk and stoned buddies back in high school. Good thing my wife loves me and supports my need to be relevant in the current generation. I know she knows that I still got it! As soon as I can put the rest of the band together, look out world! I need a vocalist, 2 guitarists, a drummer and a bass to rock this planet! Oh, I will manage the super group and take it to the TOP! Still got two good fingers to fifth chord up and down the neck baby, YOU ROCK!

And as usual he's looking for an entire lineup to join him. Typical.

Bass player here but no amp! (mesa) (what's with all the idiots in my town?)

I'm a bass player looking for an all original band. I DON'T have an amp yet. I normaly play guitar and currently run a full stack but I dont have a bass amp. I know a lot of bands have extra gear laying around so Im hoping one of those bands reads this.

Another guitar reject who picks bass because it is "easier".

How about selling the guitar stack for a decent bass rig if he is now a bass player?
