Dump your Cell phone

There are some good, rational points that have been made in this thread. It's a shame that the emotional responce has been so strongly negitive towards HookerRoad.

That being said, I hate cell phones. I hate them with a vehemence usually reserved for the criminally insane. If there is one thing that is responsible for the decline for social tact and nuiance; it would be Facebook. If there were two things responsible - it would be Facebook and texting.

Texting has made me angry more often than an abstract concept has any right to. I hate when I am having a conversation - or dinner - or am watching a movie with someone and they pull out their squakbox and start clicking away. I find it unfathomably rude, and it is the cause for more than one failed friendship. If you don't find what I have to say important enough to command your full attention while I'm talking to you, then you simply do not deserve to hear what I have to say.

However. When used with responsibility, a cell phone can be a powerful tool. It's just that they make most people wear their *** for a hat that bugs me.

I see where you're coming from with this. Also any site that bashes Facebook I must quote and respond to, just to show my support.

I'm curious HookerRoad, do you have a Facebook?
I'm going to guess not, with the attitude presented, and if not then I support you. However, if you have a Facebook and you're complaining about cell phones intruding on your privacy...ho ho ho!

It's sad that Facebook has become the definition of "social" these days. It's a social network, but all it's doing is promoting anti-socialism.

Don't blame the tech, blame the people using it.

I'll keep my cell. Doesn't matter the costs. I'm disabled and if I fall down I can call for help;)

In my situation a cell is not a frivolity, but IMO a necessary convenience. If I fall in a store, I can call without screaming and frightening everyone inside.

As far as the conspiracy, Big Brother's been on ya since the institution of the Social Security number:ninja:

:D

God Bless, Ray

Yes. You are exactly right.

Although: cell phones are the devices through which my frustrations are made possible. It is normal that I would develop antipathy towards them. On that same thread of thought; it is unreasonable to expect the masses to conform to my paradigm in regards to social etiquette. If not rationalized hate, what else am I supposed to feel?

You can argue the merits or faults of technology until the cows come home, and it's probably fun to do so. But the fact remains that it ain't going away any time soon, folks. So get used to it. And people are going to be rude, inconsiderate, and obnoxious while using cell phones. What are you gonna do? Whine about it?

Again, yes.

There is something to be said for commiseration. Besides, what can I do? Begin systematically sabotaging every cell phone I find? Break everyone's fingers so that texting is no longer an option?

Complaining is a healthy way to express negitive emotions so that they don't bottle up and fester. Besides that, in a roundabout way, if there were nobody complaining, the tenents of democracy would devolve into despotism.

I am a complaining patriot, and I am proud to be so.

Nothing wrong with complaining, and if you ask my wife when it comes to complaining you've got nothing on me! But there comes a time when complaining turns into whining. Now, Canada is still a free country (depending on what the Bloc Quebecois does, of course!), but as my dear wife always tells me, "You want some cheese with that whine?"!:smug::D

I'm not sure if I'm catching your implications correctly. Please forgive my slow-wittedness, it is very much a curse.

I attempted to state my distaste with as little irrelevant whining as possible as as much logic as I was able. If I came across otherwise, then I apologize.

And as for you - maybe you should try some wine to go with your cheese? ;)

You know when you went in to get your blood taken by the Red Cross? They were implanting an RFID chip into your arm at the same time!

You know your Cell phone? The government is looking at the naked pics you took of your girlfriend with your 1.3 megapixel camera.

You know the Gasoline your car runs on? The government secretly has billions of gallons of it all around the world and they are using it to light their Barbecue Grills.

You know that locksmith you hired because you lost the keys to your house? He's there right now, molesting your Dog!
