I have a Cthulu, Fuzz Throne, and Magick Fuzz. I kinda prefer the Cthulu to the fuzz throne since one knob and it just sounds good. Initially I thought I preferred the Throne to the Magick but this weekend I had both wired up on a board and found myself liking the heaviness of the voicing of the Magick over the Throne. So hard to describe sound in words, but the Throne was more of a raw voiced fuzz whereas the Magick had a bit more depth to it....granted these pedals have pretty versatile controls so you can dial in a wide array of fuzziness, that is my current impression of the differences.

And @johnk_10 those look incredible.

The next DIY looks great too!!! Maybe I'll take a soldering iron to this one.

In the meantime, JohnK's pedal is holding down the fort. The DIY Bass OD is incredibly versatile and sounds freaking awesome. What a great design!

I appreciate the feedback. To be super honest I did not put a ton of time into the design. The real inception for the idea was not DIY. A friend of my wife has a wedding anniversary in April of this year and asked me to build a Boss ODB3 clone for her husband who plays bass. So I just kinda mashed up the online schematic with the EQ from the WitchFinder and made some small adjustments to lower the gain, give the clean signal a little LPF and its own gain control to allow for more flexibility in terms of clean to clipped signal ratio. Then just add in LED or Si diode switch and boom the pedal was built. I had another guy locally verify it and decided to just drop it as a DIY for people to enjoy.

I have no expectations its going to blow the market up with stuff.

Cool to hear how this came about and what went into it. The voicing is really nice and it is pretty versatile...agreed w @kranahan (even on wanting a larger volt thrower ;) )

Also as far as the ODB3 Distortion project, I can't for the life of me figure out what the "Filter" knob does. What was it intended to do? I'm also a bit unclear as to what is being bypassed with the bypass switch. It more feels like a treble defeat kind of thing when I toggle it. Curious what the intended behavior is.

Filter is an adjustable low pass on the clean blend signal. 100% CCW is no high end cutoff, 100% CW is lots of high end roll off. Best to hear it if you set the signal to 100% clean and adjust the filter.

Bypass is actually a broad mid cut bypass when it’s in “Bypass”. Normally when it’s on, it chops a lot of mids. It can feel like a high cut with how much upper mids are cut

Cool! I can't wait for the DIY Super Volt Thrower to be released. ;)

I'm still trying to sell my children for a Super Volt Thrower...
