Dunwich Amplification General Discussion

Forgive the noob question, but what are the three clipping settings on the 125B Volt Thrower? Just wondering what the main differences are between it and the big box (and wondering how much I need to kick myself for missing the two big boxes that sold on Reverb today). Thanks.

The 3 clipping choices were decided by the original buyers from what I was told when I had the same question. You'd have to trace back the original owner or perhaps an old Reverb listing matching your pedal to find out for sure what are your clipping options. Maybe by posting a gutshot here someone might be able to help.

Good idea. I picked it up here on TB, FWIW. Here is the gut shot if it helps:

This… I’m an og buyer; I remember my clipping chooses, but I don’t remember my serial number. Maybe Nick has a record.

The smaller version was originally very dark, and not Rat like at all. Nick figured out a mod. Some of the original buyers sent theirs back for the mod. The mod opened up the top end, but they were still darker than your typical Rat. I was one of the original buyers, and I had the mod done...and I never should have sold the one that I had. The issue now is that there are two different versions out there, and they all have different clipping options, so you don't know what you'll get when you buy one...and prices keep going up. A real shame. I'm sure if you send a gut shot to Nick he would tell you what you have. I personally really wish the post mod version of that pedal was still available. I think most people preferred the original because it was more Rat like, but taken on it's on, without comparison, the post modded 3 band VT was really special. One of my very few pedal regrets.

Is it possible that Germ was added as a standard option at some point? Here's a gutshot of my big box VT. Mine says GE on pcb as the fifth option. Since I don't know much about circuits I can't tell if it's actually a germ clipping or just the label on the pcb but really a Schottky. Maybe enough people were asking for germ so the later versions had it?? I don't know when Magic stopped making them but I'm guessing mine is from one of the last batch..

That was definitely from the last batch of Volt Throwers from Magic.

I could see Magic just doing a batch all the same as opposed to letting people choose. I think he mostly stopped doing custom stuff. He is making me something, but he takes his time. When we nailed the details down he lead me to believe that he rarely does stuff like that any more. I've been waiting 9 months at this point :(
That's a real bummer having to wait for that long. At least it will be a genuinely one of a kind pedal!

Like I said before I'm still confused by who made what in the Dunwich/Magic deal. From what I found, the big box VTs were almost all made by Magic while the 125B were made by Nick though I might be completely wrong..
