Dunwich Amplification General Discussion

I filled in "split", and there is MORE treble that way, but the highs knob still does nothing to change the tone... Which is weird, right? Also, I found out a strange little "bug" - if I hit the low B, it occasionally makes a short glitch noise. I had thought this was a problem with a bass at first, because I only heard it on the bass with questionable wiring, but now I've heard it with another bass too, so it's got to be the pedal. Anyway, looks like I need to have somebody dig around in this thing for me and solve some stuff.

Related question - where did you find the build docs and info? The OSHpark website no longer has them, and I can't find them anywhere else.

Hmmm, yeah, that doesn't seem to be 100% they way it should ......

I might have to open up mine and check again. I installed a dip switch into the SPLIT spot, just because ... you know, options!

Build docs and everything are at Godcity now. There's also a FB group where you might get more educated answers (I don't do FB, so no idea what's going on there).

Excellent. Thank you!

@dunwichamps - Any idea what's happening with my DIY HM-2 (2021 version)? The high knob seems to have no effect whatsoever on the tone, but there is slightly more highs when the "split" on the PCB is bridged. It is open by default on mine. (I did not build this one, and have no clue how to do so!) In either scenario (open or bridged), my high knob has no effect on the tone. So a few questions have come up:

1. What's the difference between "split" being open or bridged? Which one ties the mids and highs together?
2. What may be the issue with my highs knob seemingly doing nothing?
3. Any way to get a slight bit more treble into my signal? Which caps/resistors/etc. should be changed, and to what value? (If the knob is found to be the problem, fixed, and the highs are still not enough?)

Thanks!

This has been an overdrive-heavy week. I received a new-to-me ODB earlier today and have used it on its own and with the Parabellum. I hadn’t owned any Dunwich-designed circuits before this week but I can definitely see why there’s such a long thread!

The two are totally different and I can see both getting a lot of use. As noted in my prior post, I don’t usually gel with overdrives but I like these a lot and they’ve changed what I want to play and how I want to do it.

Be sure to try the ODB at 18v.

I’ll say that the super volt thrower schools the volt thrower every day of the week.
And if memory serves, the Super Volt Thrower adds both a mids knob and a clean blend? That sounds far too good to be true... Basically seems to be an expanded Iron Pig features-wise, and that's my favorite "Rat" to date. It's actually what kicked the original VT off the board so long ago before I became so enamored with Rats in general and decided I should try a Volt Thrower again.

And just to remind me - does the VT (or any other Dunwich/Magic pedal) do 18v?

The Volt Thrower 125b, Volt Thrower 1590bb, Super Volt Thrower, Olde Dirty Bass (Big Boy), Olde Dirty Bass 125b and Wizard Fuzz 125b can be run at 18V.

It’s a reason I’ve been very focused on only 9v center negative pedals in my collection. I had a few others, and I ran the Dunwich at 18v but in the end I don’t want to think about it and there are plenty of pedals available in that format.
Are you saying you don't own any pedals that go above 9v or won't run anything above 9v?

The only pedal I have that isn’t 9v is my Starlifter preamp, and that runs off a stand alone power supply. I have the Dunwich boxes that do 18v but I don’t run them at 18 even though I have a CIOKS DC7.
