Yes it's really a shame when such a respected brand goes out of business. It also creates another dilemma: will a single AE NL-112 have enough body for pub gigs and onstage with a PA? It may be difficult to find another one if needed, or would a combination with different cab or speaker size also work?

The specs say it makes 127dB 1M, which is pretty darn loud. It has a 500W power rating and 100dB sensitivity rating. I would not expect big, fat lows out of the NL112 at 127dB. If you hit it with 500W below 100hz you're probably asking for trouble.

For comparison the calculated SPL of an Ampeg SVT into at 810 at 300W is about 125dB. The 810 also has a 100dB sensitivity rating. AFAIK the 810 will take 800W below 100hz.

Which you will perceive as louder is likely to depend on the type of tone you are after. I would prefer the NL-112.

I agree it would be nice to have two.

This cab uses transmission line technology instead of a standard port. It may not pair well with ported cabs.

@tombowlus has gigged his NL-112s, so he might could answer the "is the single NL-112 enough" question, that is, if he's tried just using one!

The only way to know if the NL-112 would sound good paired with a different kind of cab would be to try it, as long as the total ohmage presented to your amp is okay. However, the NL-112 is a transmission line cab, so it could possibly be problematic sonically, combining one with a standard ported cab.

Again, Tom could probably answer that, assuming he's tried one NL with disparate cabs.

Hey @Wasnex- I didn't see your post before I made mine just now. Well answered, that was, from the technical perspective on the limitations of any single 112 solution. It always depends on how loud one wants to play!

Alas, thus far, I have only gigged with both cabs (and in general, for most of my gigs, two 1x12's is about the average for what I tend to need), though I would say that if you have been satisfied with a single 1x12 from another maker, the NL-112 should do you just fine. Also, I have not tried the mix and match with other brand cabs (yet). Sorry...
