EarCandy Cabs - Beware: Crazy Ahead

If its a poorly designed cab based upon bad engineering, I don't mind a pile on. If its a guy who's knowingly ripping people off and taking bassist's cash, I don't mind a well deserved pile on.

But if this indeed is a case of true mental problems, sickness, etc., then I think a TB rubbernecking fest about someone's mental illness is at the very least uncharitable, and probably more than that.

In reality who really knows what happened with this guy. I'd say based on his history of mumbo jumbo ******** when describing his products there was always something a little wacky with him.

All I'm saying is, is that it is silly for someone who has never heard the cab to look at a picture of one and say they are engineered poorly and must sound bad. I've been gigging with a 2 bassbomb vertical stack for awhile and always get lots of compliments on how great they sound. This is all a bit off subject now. Here is my stack. They are the same dimensions, that's just trickery by the angle of the photo. And no, I didn't gig or practice with my SVT sitting on top of them like this. :D

Yeah hey Skies, nobody likes to be told their gear is sh** by someone who's never tried it or heard it. If Laz pushed his SVT through that stack in his doom band down in Baltimore, they had to have some magic in em, or I know he wouldn't have bought the 2nd one (durr). Just unneccesary to push people's buttons.... as was stated, this isn't about the cabs at all. If they weren't decent, people wouldn't be sending Tim money.

I'm happy for people to play whatever they like. :) If it works for you, then that's cool. Again, we're not debating the cab designs here in the least, as far as I can tell.

I'm just saying that there are all sorts of viable reasons to do threads without taking shots at someone who may or may not be seriously mentally ill (who knows, maybe he's just a crank). The OP's heads up about his business practices, and questionable interactions are well worthy of discussion though.

Yeah I thought some of the earlier assumptions from other posters of mental illness or brain injury were kinda outta line too (if you or someone close to you was in that situation, kinda insensitive ya know since the brain is a complex thing and cause and effect gets rough.) Reality is people are just f'd up, for every conscientious honest business man there's another one like Tim or Dr. Bass. Luckily in internet land we can all find out about them before we instantly wire our hard earned cash ;)

So I'm interested in hearing about this virus or odd PC problems people have after visiting the site. My corporate IT department hasn't pulled me into a windowless room yet, so I'd assume nothing happened when I went to it. But we have, ya know, security standards and whatnot.

The other possibility, he started as an honest business man, and the psycho hose beast running his Facebook warped his mind and convinced him to find Jesus and start ripping people off (odd chain of events eh?)

Here's a fun old EarCandy thread...I wish I could find that one awesome one with Flea's best friend in it...

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/earcandy-cabs-247942/

I think the guy's name is eric234, but he changed his name several times so I could be wrong. It may be the same thread I made a bet with him about changing his identity and offered to take a picture of myself wearing one of my (now ex) wife's skirts if I was wrong. I wasn't. I think the namechanged guy in that thread is the same too. I'm pretty sure that was one of his other "handles".

It very well could be. I think he was a kid with a lot of attitude and maybe parents with more money than sense (way too much of that around) at the very least. At the most a young troll with a fictitious life.

Fearfuls were designed based on science and calculation. Ear Candies were designed based on hunches, appearances, and apparently mental illness.

LOLZ. What many people dont take into acocunt, often due to lack of a wide basis for comparison is, you can throw any speaker, into any box... run an amplified bass signal thru it.... and it will sound like a bass.... many people, including me, love the sounds that come from some very poorly designed cabinets (like the SVT), but often people's mind's are blown the first time they hear a really properly designed enclosure like the Fearfuls or Bergantinos....it's all relative...

warning - totally OT

hey brother BurningSkies, very interesting and cool Avatar change ! crazy redheaded Lincoln.

Wow, I haven't thought about EarCandy cabinets in years. I've never played through one, but I always thought they looked awesome. The initial exchange in the OP reminds me of the recent story about the marketing guy who basically sunk his whole business because he was a douche to a guy who purchased a gaming controller and had yet not received it well after the promised delivery date. I'm leary of business owners who go on tirades against their haters. IME, the best policy against haters is to simply ignore them. Going on tirades and tangents about them just makes you look petty.

And +1 to not digging mixing business and religion or politics. It always seemed that Lord Valve shot himself in the foot a bit with having to always go on political rants.

If you click on the "Powered By Spaulding" link at the bottom, it heads back to earcandy.com.

Don't you guys get it? Spaulding is the company that harvests the special tone woods that go into EarCandy cabs. ;)

P.S. As a former (mostly) satisfied CandyCab customer, I feel comfortable about poking a little fun.
