Hey everybody!!! It is really quiet on the thread so I figured I would jump in and say hello. Also, hello to Dan H.!! I hope you got moved from New York safely and are doing well with your family. I truly believe you will not only find this area to be beautiful, but you will also find the best people you could find anywhere as well. The guys on here are not only knowledgeable about basses and gear (and they own some AWESOME gear), but they would gladly lend a helping hand to one another, or anyone else for that matter. We are blessed to live in this beautiful area and we are glad you chose here to bring your family to live. We look forward to getting to know you better and hope to maybe meet you at a GTG if we can get another one together sometime.

I would like to say thank you to those of you who have said prayers for me thru my illness. I am doing a little better, just taking things day by day. I have actually gotten to play music at church some over the last couple of months here and there when I have been able to. I have to wear ear plugs and can barely hear but I am so thankful to be able to be part of our worship team at church. I am sure you guys know; music is our passion and drives us. Whether it be in church or in your band somewhere else or whatever, we all just love to play!!!!!
So I am thankful to get to, even if it is just here and there. I am actually playing guitar :spit::spit::spit: My daughter plays bass full time now and I am so proud of her!!! I could not ask for more of a blessing than to see her growing up into a young lady and being able to become a talented musician like she has. I am blessed far more than I could ever deserve!!!!!
As if that were not enough, my oldest daughter is about to have a baby in September, so I will be a papaw (woo hoo), and I guess I am officially old now!!!

One final note; if anyone is interested, in my signature I have some gear for sale/trade. I would much prefer to sell the stuff but would listen to trades if you see something you might be interested in. I would much rather work out a local deal than ship stuff. Some of it is guitar stuff, so if you know a guitarist looking for any stuff, send them my way and I would greatly appreciate it!!! I also have some more stuff listed on Craigslist and if you are interested I can send you a list of what else I have; just shoot me a PM and let me know!!

Hey guys..two bands, two shows on Halloween. I play with Sandy Ray and the Cold Shoulders at Jiggy Ray's Pizza in Downtown Elizabethton. They are having an all day music festival; JiggyPalooza. Check the web. Jiggy Ray's has a website. After that, I play with The Color 7 at the 11-E Sports Bar. It is in Greeneville, on the Old Knoxville Hwy. They have a Facebook page. We go on at ten. Sandy Ray is Honky-Tonk music, The Color 7 is good old rock and roll. Mostly covers, but, some very cool originals.

Glad to see some of you guys out gigging! Since my job change and increased travel, gigs for my band have been slim to none. I told them to get the bookings and I would make sure to work my travel schedule around them, but turns out I was the only one willing to reach out to venues/clubs, so the band is idle. We have played two gigs since my promotion and I booked one of those. At least I still get to play in church quite often. I've been playing my Wishbass fretless 5 string mostly in church. Sounds great through the Eden WTDI there.

There is a core of us that attended GTG's, 7 or so guys, that I would love to give the opportunity to play the Wish and Reverend. Neither of those were in the stable at the last GTG. With the limited group, maybe we could just have an informal GTG. Let's kick it around...

Now that I have a new job, with the state, I have every weekend off. Before, I worked every weekend, and made less money. Now, I can attend more get togethers. iamoldschool, I am down for it. I will bring some toys, and some cards. I am finally starting custom guitar builds. The first is a LP style guitar, so, people may not want to see posts of it...After I start, I will post some teasers. If anyone is interested, PM me, and I can share...

An IGTG ("informal") sounds good. It's been, what, two years since the last attempt at a "formal" one at Jeff's church? We have some new TB bassists in the Knoxville area that it would be good for us to meet.

Due to changes in the music theatre scene in Knoxville and Oak Ridge, for now I'm not going to be playing any shows. I'd like to get surprised, though! I won't be playing the holiday show at Oak Ridge, so will be free these last two months of 2015 if we work something up in that time frame.

I am considering revamping my gear inventory, so would bring a number of pieces out that might be available.

I'm also down for an IGTG; weekends generally work well, especially if they're in Knoxville (coming over from Greene County).

My Bluegrass Band (Smoky Mountain Bluegrass a.k.a. Greene County Possum Mashers--formerly known as The Great Smoky Mountain Bluegrass Band, formerly known as Big Cedar Ramblers-- is unofficially on its last run. I quit the band, and our last official gig was Saturday night at Bellamy Hardware in Surgoinsville. Our core trio and some friends will play a couple of shows in December, the 18th at Yee Haw Brewery (Thumpin_P, hit me up for a referral) in JC, then the annual Christmas show at the Down Home that we annually coordinate for Ed on the 19th. After that, the banjo player (who inherits all rights to the name) may choose to continue with pickup players, but he's exploring his options, and it's looking unlikely.

I quit because I'm busy with work that feeds me better...

I'm volunteering as a community participant in the local college jazz band this year, and I'm having a blast! Only half the members are students, and there's a ringer in every section. The band is pretty good, and my jazz chops are improving quickly.

My Upcoming Gigs:
October 29/30 - four shows with the Johnson City Community Theatre: The Rocky Horror Show, a fundraiser, already sold out--much of the same cast and same pit+2 as we had for RENT this summer.

November, 2nd & 3rd weekends - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with Tusculum College Theater. Can't wait. I'm doubling on upright. If there was more time, I'd borrow a horn and work on my tuba chops for a couple of pieces. Next time, Gadget.

December - three performances with the Jazz band (2 Christmas concerts and a fundraiser at the General Morgan Inn), and the aforementioned Smoky gigs.

In 2016 I'm booked for Swing! with the Jonesborough Rep (another doubling gig), and 13 the Musical with the Kingsport Theater Guild. I'll re-announce those in the new year.

I'm pretty happy with my musical pursuits these days; and haven't been for a couple of years, so I consider myself damn lucky to have finally connected with a community of like-minded musicians with similar interests and goals.

I'll be watching for any GTG info!

Jeff, that is about as good a statement as any of us could make. I'm happy for you! It's rare to find those jazz/theatre level gigs in east Tn., so when you get one it's pretty amazing.

I'm hoping to find some other music settings as well. It'd be great to both get into a regular band, and to get involved with a church that needs a reg. I don't look to be playing theatre again any time soon, unless someone calls up out of the blue. Interesting how the seasons last and then change, and how opportunities present themselves and then depart.

iamoldschool: what time frame are you thinking of for an informal GTG? Even for an informal one, those of us who are interested in coming out will need to get our heads together on a date that at least most of us could attend.

I'm thinking the sooner, the better. I will be in town until 11/9, then gone until 11/20. Since it's informal (i.e. no expectation of PA, stage, refreshments, etc.) we can do it on a whim. How about Sunday, 11/1? I can host, have a couple of different possible locations, but I'm in Morristown. Michael, if you want to do it in Knoxville, maybe look at a restaurant with a room that we could use. If we go that route, small amps would be the order of the day. Thoughts?

Well, guys...looks like the show at Jiggy Ray's in Elizabethton was never scheduled. The bandleader failed to clue me, or the drummer, in on the memo. The show at the 11-E Sports Bar, with The Color 7 is still on, if anyone wants to make it out, that way! Introduce yourself, if you make it out!
On a separate note...I am getting real tired of the bandleader excluding my brother (the drummer) and myself from news about shows. She doesn't know it, but, he and I are possibly on our way out. I hate it, but, I have been unhappy in that band, since our rhythm guitarist passed away. She chose not to replace him. I understand that, but, the bass cannot fill the gaps left by an acoustic guitarist...in an Americana band...just venting...

Hey Thumpin_P; I hate to hear about your troubles and sorry about the loss of your band member. I wonder why in the world would she not see the need to replace the acoustic guitarist? Just like you said already, there is no way to replace what is missing without another member. I probably should not say anything because I have no idea what she is feeling or thinking. It is tough on you and your brother for sure though and I hope that situation improves for you guys, or if you see fit, to find something else.

Hey guys; I should be able to make this IGTG. I have church late on Sunday mornings but I can try to get out early if possible. I am ok with Motown or Ktown.
Also, I can provide the mini rig (Aguilar TH500 and two Aggie 1x12 cabs) so no big rigs would have to be drug out (unless you just want to)!!!
I will bring my basses with me, which have changed quite a bit recently. It will be the following:
1. Warwick Streamer Stage 1 Five String
2. Warwick Corvette Standard Fretless 5 String
3. Fender 2015 Standard P Bass (Sandblasted Crimson Red)
4. 1972 Fender Precision Bass
5. Carvin 5 String Lined Fretless (this one is also for sale at the moment if anyone happens to be interested)
6. Squier VM 5 String Jazz Bass (with some upgrades)

Everything will be there for everybody to play and enjoy. I hope I have some stuff that others don't have and vice versa. I am really excited as this will be the first GTG that I will have been able to attend. My health is up and down, as it has been for a while, but my doctors have me right now to where I am doing ok and able to manage things a lot better.
Can't wait to meet everybody!!

I really appreciate that, @10bfb. I have been scratching my head on it, too. I don't play to "make it big". I do it for the love of good music and good times. I'm not gonna lie, though...getting paid is high on my list. But, if you don't want to make the music the best that it can be...why keep doing it? That's why I am so much happier in The Color 7. It's a challenge, with two great musicians, and friends. We always have a great time, and, no matter what I do...it feels like something inside pushing me saying .." Hey, sing now, play this now..." Anyway...I appreciate it. I am definitely looking forward to the GTG...see you guys there!!!
