East Tennessee Talkbass

We are confirmed for this Sunday, 11/1/15. I reserved the room from 2pm - 5pm. I will bring my Reverend R5L, Wishbass Hipper 5 Fretless and, of course, my white P5. For amp, only going to bring my Tech21 Landmark 60. Also have an MXR and WTDI direct boxes up in the Sanctuary that I could snag if anyone wants to try those. As mentioned before, I won't be bringing a PA to this one or providing snacks or drinks. Just keeping it informal. Directions are below:

From the East: Take I81 South to Exit 8. Turn right to go North on 25E to the exit for Morris Blvd.(first exit past Walters State Community College and College Square Mall). Left onto Morris Blvd. then left onto Wilder St (beside Krystal). The church is at the top of the hill on the left.

From the West: take I40 East to I81 North to exit 8. Turn right onto Hwy 25E North. Go to the exit for Morris Blvd.(first exit past Walters State Community College and College Square Mall). Left onto Morris Blvd. then left onto Wilder St (beside Krystal). The church is at the top of the hill on the left.

Address for GPS is 425 Wilder Street, Morristown, TN.

At the church, take the first entrance and drive around to the back. The GTG will take place in the church multi-purpose room which is basically a gym with a kitchen and some sound deadening panels.

It's been a while since our last GTG. Hoping for a good turnout!

Would like to make this GTG, but gonna have to wait and see how much I have left in the energy dept.

If I can make it will likely bring the PJB folded horn cab, Fender 300T Bassman and a handful of Dingwalls.

Two high energy shows Friday and Saturday, church Sunday morning and flight early Monday. Have to check with Mrs. Roller, she gets the very dregs lately....

Nice little GTG in Motown today. Got to meet some very nice guys with some very cool gear. Hope I didn't get too much drool on anyone's gear!

Seems like I'm the only one of our group who hasn't gone to Aguilar. Saw some really nice Aggie gear and had the opportunity to play through it, too! Very nice stuff, indeed. My little Tech21 amp produced a little shock and awe, too. Still think it is one of, if not the most under rated combos ever produced. Firsts for me: 1 - Playing a Warwick (solid and well crafted, but HEAVY - a younger man's bass, lol), 2 - Playing a Rob Allen (now we're talking - light as a feather and beautifully crafted instruments), 3 - Playing the four string Jazz twin (little sister) of my P5 - very nice J bass. Also got to play several other fretless basses - made me glad that I have a fretless to noodle on, even if it is a Wishbass. Sorry for you guys that missed this. The format was well-received. The room had plenty of space for us to spread out and display our gear and basses sounded good despite it being basically a gym with tile floors and block walls (acoustic panels are spaced throughout). Had a total of four ETTB'rs that attended. In addition to me, we had ThumpinP (Paul), bass10bfb (Barry) and Jeff Elkins. Already looking forward to the next one!

Hey guys!! Had a GREAT time at the GTG today!! I am going to go ahead and post some pics that I took real quick. I apologize if I didn't get enough. I did not even make it over to get to play thru Jeff's rig and basses (what a bummer!!!)! I will go more in depth with everything later. But it was an absolute pleasure meeting everybody today and can't wait to have another one!!
Only problem is this just makes me want to spend money!!!!!!

Jeff, I haven't put the Reverend back in it's hiding place yet. Reminded myself today what a great bass that is. She will definitely see some added playing time. May even find a place for her in the lineup. I will have to switch cases tho. Can't risk dinging up that Tuxedo case.

It was such a pleasure being there!!! I and Leah Anna had a great time!!! I am definitely down for the next ones!!! I can't express how big I could see this being!! Fellow TBers...try to make it to the next one..show some love. Obviously, this goes out to people who have never been to one. Nothing but great times, great people, and sweet gear!!! Thanks to everyone for today!! I had a blast and it was a pleasure meeting everyone. That was the best part of the whole thing; just getting to talk to everyone about their gear and getting to know each other. I am excited to have another one and get to know some of the other guys that didn't get to make it to this one. This was the 1st one that I have been able to make but I am very glad I got to for sure.

Special thanks to Richard for lining everything up and getting us such a nice place to have it. We had plenty of room and sounded real good in there. We could do a lot more people and equipment easily if we choose to.

Also thanks to Jeff and Haven. Glad you guys got to come and I am really glad she liked the Warwicks and the Fenders. She looked like she could sit there and play all day and that was awesome to be able to see that. My daughter is 23 and plays in our church band now so it is awesome seeing a young lady learning like Haven is. Hopefully my daughter will be at the next one. She hasn't been feeling well the last couple of days and was planning on coming but we just decided she would not come right when I left Newport. She just felt too bad. She could hang out with Haven at the next one and give her some pointers and just have some fun with another girl bassist.

Thanks to Paul and Leah Anna. Leah Anna mentioned she plays drums; maybe we can get something going in one of the next GTG's to have a full band??? Something to think about. We could include her a little more and have a chance to play some of each other's gear "live".

As far as all the gear, I was like a kid in a candy store!!! The first bass I saw when I walked in was Richard's Fender American Standard P5. I have wanted one for years. I knew it would be a great day. I got to hook it up into a little ole' combo amp called the Tech 21 Landmark 60..... man oh man, that thing blew me away!!!! I just sat there for a couple of minutes pounding on one note over and over just listening to the clarity and the power of that little amp. Honestly, I was very impressed and can't say enough about this amp. I will be scouring Ebay and Talkbass looking for one now.
Richard's Wishbass and Reverend also were awesome. And that tuxedo case for the Reverend.... way cool!!!

Paul's Yamaha's that he brought were very nice as well. I have always thought that Yamaha's are some of the most underrated basses out there and I have never played a bad one. The two I played today are no exception; very nice basses. I also played Paul's Spector fretless. Very nice; felt different than the Wishbass which felt different than the Warwick (we had a plethora of tones and feels to choose from)!!

I hope everyone enjoyed playing my gear. Also, if anyone ever wants to borrow something for a gig or just to play for a while, just let me know. I only play in church right now on Sundays due to the Neurological Condition I have. I don't get out much so my gear sits a lot. And my daughter plays bass and I am stuck on electric guitar when I do get to play !!!!

Sorry for the lack of pics; my hands were shaky and ruined a lot of them. I will get more next time including some "in action shots"

My pleasure to let her play the basses Jeff. That P bass is actually a 1972 P Bass. That is actually my birth year and I have been trying to find one forever and I finally found it. The neck says January of 1972. I was just fortunate to find it at a good time and for a good price. Glad she liked it; I do too!!!! LOL!!
