How about Abingdon?!? We're in Va, but close enough to TN. Also, 5.3% sales tax vs. ~10%...
Not to mention one of the best farmers markets around, Wolf Hills Brewery, and an eclectic music scene!
[Johnson City here, but lots of love for Abingdon!]

Glad you're going to be there, Jeff. You two will love the show.Just got my tickets for Friday night! Can't talk the SO into hanging for Saturday's GTG, so I'm taking her to see Bridges Friday night and planning to come back to town for the GTG Saturday.
Bumping the thread to remind everyone, the GTG is tomorrow at 4 pm and the show is at 8. I'll likely be arriving around 6, looking forward to it!
Going to the theater: After you pass the traffic circle on Walters State CC Drive, the parking area is on the left side of the main campus drive, in front of and across the drive from the Inman theater. The lobby entrance is on the left side, down the sidewalk from the parking area. For reference, here is a screen capture from Google Maps. Inman is the all-brick, tall building at the center.
