I think that posting our gigs is one of the intentions of this thread, I've met some great fellow bass players in the area by following the posts here!

Soul Driver will be in Oak Ridge at Throttle Down, (formerly Crow's Nest, formerly The Warehouse) this coming Friday night, I hope some of you fellow bass players in the area might want to join us for some good music, maybe even a field trip to Big Ed's Pizza before the show, and get to network a bit between sets. Also, anyone wanting to know what Phil Jones Bass amplification or Dingwall basses are all about would get the opportunity for some hands on experience if they were so inclined!

Man, wish I could be there for that!

Jeff, have you ever played through the PJ Briefcase? At some point I'd like to get a super small rig for things like acoustic get-togethers or family Christmas jams (also acoustic). I've been wondering if anything that small could actually have bottom end.

I have not had the opportunity to play a briefcase, but everyone who has one reports they are surprising. I doubt it would hold its own in a three piece rock band, but there are many three piece jazz bands out there using them. I've heard they really shine when used with a double bass!

Thanks, Jeff. I've read reviews and heard the same as you - good for double bass. And really I'm sure it would be fine for any low volume stuff - just wondering how it would compare to other super small rigs. Seems like it's reputation is for natural sound which is important in reproducing the DB. My priority would be more towards a nice deep rumble in as small a package as possible. Sound that is colored is OK (as long as it's a pleasant coloring).
Not buying anytime soon, but want to shop the options and gather opinions so when I'm ready I'll know what to go for.

Hey guys!! Quick question for my East Tenn. brethren. I just picked up an OLP MM HH 4 string bass for a friend. Bass sounds surprisingly good, even better than I had hoped. But, this bass has the 5 way selector switch for the 2 humbucker pups. When you move the selector switch to certain positions, the bass hums very loudly. Does anybody know who in East Tenn. could work on the electronics for me? I don't want anything switched out; just wanna get this fixed. I can't find a wiring diagram for it either. If anybody has any ideas or suggestions, your help and time is greatly appreciated!!!

Oh my gosh, Matt, I am way sorry to hear about this. That place will be out of business before the end of the year at the rate they are ticking off customers. I've never been there, and won't go now.

I picked up my Douglas WVEB fretless violin bass yesterday from String Workshop in Oak Ridge. Jonathan did a terrific job fixing the action problems on the bass. He lowered the nut, set the neck relief, and adjusted the bridge, and now there is zero buzzing or problems. He also smoothed the rough edges on the fingerboard, so it is very comfortable to play. The price was very reasonable for the work he did. Jeff, thanks for telling me about Jonathan.

I'd recommend this bass to anybody who needs to add an upright-esque sounding bass to their collection. It sings, is easy to play, and gets a lot of diifferent tones, although the money sound is neck pickup soloed, and strings plucked over the end of the fingerboard. It's Link Removed on rondomusic.com, and is very inexpensive. Get a good setup from Jonathan and go with TI Jazz Flats and you're there for a bit more than $200. This bass sounds and plays very well for the money. Jonathan said the quality of the fit and finish were as good as, if not better than, German Hofners that have come through his shop.
