East Tennessee Talkbass

Doing a PA gig tomorrow night for a local high school choir concert then the Lost Creek Shakers are playing Saturday night for the Christmas party at the Elks club. Having a pretty good month all things considered.

Old school, I'm looking at your rig and notice that you've got both a traditional bass amp (GB) and a Crown power amp. I'm not too up to date on Crowns, but don't these require a separate pre? If so, what pre do you use? Looks like you have two completely different ways to get your sound. Nice.

Actually, I have three different configurations that I could use. I use a Sansamp RBI preamp with the Crown XS500. I also have a Genz Benz GBE750 that can be used with or without the Sansamp. For straight DI, I have an Eden WTDI to use, again with or without the Sansamp. That's why we need to have a GTG, so you guys can show me how to use some of this junk!

My favorite configuration is Sansamp>Crown>GB XB2 410. Kind of like showing up to a knife fight with a nuclear weapon for most of my gigs, though. Thanks for asking about the gear, though. I'm kind of a gear hound, kinda rare on TB (not).

Nice.
TBer Funk Generator also has a setup with the preamp separate from the power amp. I'm just not as familiar with that as I'd like to be. Trying to learn. His rig sounded great.

I'm from Kingsport but living in N'ville now. Only get home every two or three months so that's the only time I'm around for a GTG. Love to hear and learn about other's gear and share what I have and what I've learned.

Keep us updated, Code. I don't know if the other guys here don't have gigs, or are just not committed to posting gigs on here, or what. Mainly, I think most of them aren't subscribed to this thread and are only posting here when they see the thread show up in the "New posts" link on Talkbass.

Note to all East Tennessee Talkbassers - Subscribe to this thread!

I have finished the Oak Ridge show "Little Women" and am currently enjoying some well-deserved downtime after playing nine theatre productions this year.

Lol...I update when my old brain can trigger me to do it.....We do stay pretty busy, by New Years Eve, we will have 78 shows for the year. We are booked in 2012 for about 39 already...

Hope to meet some of you guys soon :bassist:

OK guys - Let's post our NYE gigs. NYE should represent the best chance of seeing another TB'r in his/her natural habitat (no further comment). If you aren't gigging this NYE, make sure to pick a venue that one of your ET brethren is performing at. Oh, and don't forget to say HI and drool on his gear before you leave!

Lost Creek Shakers are at the Elks in Morristown in the Ballroom! 8:30-12:30 followed by a free buffet breakfast. Tix are $15/couple including party favors, Champagne toast at midnight and the aforementioned breakfast.

Richard, glad you have an NYE gig! That sounds like fun up there in Motown. Let's definitely hear details from everyone who is gigging.

This year, I'm not playing out anywhere. I'm probably going down to hear some music at First Night in downtown K-town, then go from there to hear one of our ETTB bands. That's the current plans. No reservations anywhere, so it's going to be made up!

I enjoyed playing the fundraiser last NYE at Oak Ridge. It was the first time I'd played NYE in years. I really am hoping to get back into a band in 2012- that's the only resolution for the year currently. :)

Everyone who is playing NYE, count your blessings that you are in a band and you have a gig, no matter if it's big or small. There is a thread going on The Bottom Line (TBL) email digest about the dearth of gigs all over the country. It sounds pretty slow all over.

If I had the money to move anywhere on the planet, 'twould be East TN. Unfortunately, due to blowing all my $$ on music gear, I can only afford giant pile of orange T-shirts :)

Oh well, someday...

...spent my birthday yesterday (45...) hiking and splashing about in GSMNP, while wearing shorts:p Had lunch at my favorite spot, which would be the BP station in Wears Valley with the outdoor tables, etc. Goin' home tomorrow, but a good time was had by all. Not to mention, with a new pile of Vol T-shirts and also a nice one from Gruhn's as well. Now if I only had an extra $6500 for that 1963 sunburst P-bass...

Glad you enjoyed your visit, Bryan. Make sure to let us know when you plan to get back to the area. May be that a TB'er will be close by and would like to meet you or invite you to a gig! I only live about 40 min from GSMNP and my daughters made a trip to Bass Pro Shops today.

US lakland Joe osborn 5 with fralins and a bipassable Bart pre. Ash body with birdseye maple fingerboard :) I'm as excited as a kid on Christmas!

Now you're talking! Wish my US JO5 had had a bem board... I'd still have it!

Congrats! I'd like to see it and do a local Lakland owners gtg ;-)

thanks JJ! I have a week spot for BEM, otherwise I would have done a cash sale on my 55-94 instead of a trade :)

A local GTG sounds great! are we ever going to do one for the East TN talkbass? Who was that guy who makes custom lakland pickguards? This joe has a clear one over tabaco sunburst, and I think it needs a red tort one :)
