The ultimate insult:
The reason I wasn't able to make the gtg was because I had a chance to sit in with a Celtic band that I'd been trying to get together with for a long time (they normally don't have a bass player at all so this was going to be a first for all of us). Then last night I go to meet them at the gig and it's been canceled. Apparently I missed a good thing because the freebie I was going to do canceled without any warning.

It's an unspoken rule at events like these, treat others property with utmost respect. We bring our basses and equipment to events like this because we WANT our contemporaries to play them and touch them.

I didn't see any exposed belt buckles or bracelets in attendance, every bass I saw being played was handled with proper appreciation and reverence.

I'm all for holding another one this year, but it needs more planning and coordination. There are rooms available at the church where amps and pedals can be set up for more of an isolated evaluation.

The largest benefit to come from our gathering was the camaraderie and interaction. We all go to talkbass because of our love for the instrument, the GTG is like that only in person and getting to share information and getting to know each other in real time.

The Bergantino 2x12 I had on display at the GTG was sold this morning on TB. I have its replacement - a Berg NV6x10 incoming tomorrow. Way too big for my needs, but it just sounds so good. Will bring it to the next GTG for sure. Also, I have a really nice Mike Lull MV4 bass, trans-red, that one member wished I had brought. Will bring it next time too.

I couldn't agree more about treating other people's stuff better than your own. Still, there were some very serious basses there and I thank all of you for being so willing to share. And yes, that includes everything. Just being able to test drive everything prior to purchase is an awesome opportunity, especially for those of us that live closer to the sound of the banjo. :hyper:

Ditto on the meet and greet, as well as see and hear in person gear I have only read about. Thanks to everyone who brought gear and trusted us with it. The lineup was impressive indeed.

My appreciation also to Jeff and others behind the scenes who set this up. Michael will remember a GTG effort a few years ago in Johnson City which was a bust, so I'm very happy this one worked out. I think the "Murvul"/Knoxville location is key, simply because there are more to draw from, although the Tri-Cities was well represented yesterday.

We missed you MV, so next time no excuses.

A few pages back, Marty Bell's name came up. Just thought that I would comment since a few folks were talking about doing refins.

I spoke with Marty this morning. What a super nice guy. Sending out a Fender Jazz Highway One body in that hideous red wine nitro.

Marty said that turnaround is 7-10 days right now. As info, Wilkins is running 6 weeks.

What color am I doing? An ode to 1970's funk with a Brilliant Lavender Sparkle, fondly referred to by one of our TB members as Statutory Grape !

Also, if anyone can recommend a great luthier out my way (Kingsport, Bristol, JC,) or out as far as Knoxville, I would be grateful.

Yeah, I do remember that last GTG attempt. Can you rehash what you recall of it? Did anybody actually go to it?

One difference this time is that we've had the ETTB thread going for a bit over a year now, and it's brought a lot of the bassists in east Tennessee together in a way that we didn't manage before. I think we were using the "Tennessee Bassist Club" thread before, which is now moribund.

The other difference is that Jeff and I have talked a GTG up on some level for some time, and then the big thing was Jeff stepped up to make it happen at his church.

You can't have a GTG of any size at most homes, just from a square footage perspective, and a noise one as well. It almost has to be a workplace or a church, or possibly a rehearsal hall. I'm not currently attending church anywhere, so I didn't have a place to offer.

So, yeah, Jeff is the man on this one! I appreciate everything he did. I also understand what he's saying about being better organized next time. I'm sure the sanctuary got a bit one-at-a-time as far as actual playing was concerned, just because only so many people can play at once in the same room, and I bet this group was pretty respectful of each other. I like the idea of having the breakout rooms, it'll be a matter of figuring out what gear goes in which rooms, and in what combinations.

Anyway, yes, I missed seeing you, Larry! Glad you hooked up with Bill on the Ampeg preamp, and that you made the drive down for the GTG.

It was so stupid to have a cold this weekend! That's all I can say.

Nice! I've had the NV215, NV425 (was at the gtg), and now I'll get to hear an NV610!! Too bad I don't still have the 215.... that'd made for a great side-by-side comparison huh?

Never seen a Lull, it'd be nice to play one.

Lol, I was SO paranoid hanging his Dingwall prima artist custom deluxe special blend espresso roast venti SS GT turbo ;-D BACK on it's stand. I think I held my hand out for like a minute, making sure it was safe and NOT gonna topple. :-D

Brilliant lavender sparkle is one of the colors in my Stingray swirl paintjob.... its truly "brilliant", very sparkly!

Marty is the best! Remind him please of how Joseph "Jody" Jordan sung his praises and showed off his work here and elsewhere on TB... not because I'll get a discount or anything (prices are excellent as is) but because that's what I do for such excellent business men that provide such great work and service! I'll be sending him my '51 Fender tele P body soon, I've almost got my design finalized.

But did you use "the force?". I was equally uncomfortable handling "sexual chocolate" but when you see the neck through fanned fret chambered knock off I think you will be pleased!
