I'm in Kingsport just north of JC.
I don't have anything special compared to what others have, but I would be more than happy to bring any of my stuff that anyone would like to play with.
Iamoldschool, I am in a real quandry as to what I want to add to push air. It's currently driving a Brx 10.4 Neo that can eat up to 1200 watts at 4 ohms. And while I haven't gigged it or turned it up to 11, it sounds pretty amazing. Heck, even the 10.2 sounds fantastic.
I keep hearing about Bergs and a couple of the fEarful builds. Bergs have really peaked my interest.
That said, the six year old in me wants a fridge of some kind. You'd think at 49 years old, you'd grow out of big cabinet envy, but NOOOOOOO ! I am not even gigging or in a band and only looking to gig casually once I find a home. And still I pine for one.
I think this all stems from an outdoor gig I played years ago got to play through 2 8x10's. The air moving was so massive and intense that my teeth felt like they were buzzing and grinding when my jaw was closed. I had this stupid grin on my face the whole time. I have no idea if the crowd enjoyed themselves but I assure you that I had a blast.......literally.
I am going to pretend to exercise some semblence of intelligence and just wait and see what type of band I show up in. But come on, is there any style of music that won't sound good running an 8x10?
Damn the double hernia and full speed ahead!
My Berg is the perfect cab for Singray players. I have mixed feelings about moving it, but I probably would if someone showed up w/ cash.

Heck of a day today. Picked up the Franken Jazz. To say that I am giddy is an understatement.
And, as if I wasn't like a kid at Christmas, I managed to pick up a stray on the way. A Fender Roadworn Jazz. The guy gave me an absolutely fantastic deal.
He is the same guy that has the 77P for sale. It was the real deal. Original case, ashtray, p/u cover, all electronics, etc. THe orgignal PG is cracked so he has a replacement on it. I want it but I would be in deep trouble. See below.
He also let me play his 1968 Tele Bass. What a beast ! He wasn't interested in letting it go or even discussing a sale. That thing is going to haunt me.
I think that Mrs. Zoomie is not real happy with me though. Every time that I try and get near her, she gives me a low growl and shows lots of teeth.

I played a '66 jazz yesterday, my wife didn't like the 5 figure price or the fact that I wanted it :-(.

I thought it was. In all honesty, I'm really a more of a passive bass guy. That's why the P5 is my go to bass. I would love to sample the Benavente at some point though. Sounds like at the rate Zoomie is acquiring gear, the next GTG should be at his place. That would be sure to make the wife proud!
lol yeah that sounds like a plan! That's what I love about my Nordy. It's pretty much a passive bass but you can add bass or treble if you like. Also there is a passive switch which seems a bit pointless to me as it doesn't really do anything unless you have the bass or treble boosted.
I LOVE your P5! that is the best fender I've ever touched I currently know the owner of Nordy VP5 #0 and it gives me terrible gas. I think he is inactively selling it too.

I have been spending like a sailor but it looks more aggressive than it is. I needed a full size head so had to pull the trigger on it. The Franken has been coming together for a while so that just ended up being a timing thing. The Roadworn was not my fault ! I wanted one for months but could not bring myself to spend 1000.00 for an MIM. How can I say no when a the guy fire sales one, in Fiesta Red no less?
I played a pre Gibson Tobias Classic 5 for years. Never even looked at another bass. This go-round I wanted to play lots of production instruments to see what has changed and more specifically how my tastes of changed.
I have hated P basses my entire life, yet now, I can't see myself not having at least one.
I'll end up with a high end instrument again at some point. Still, there is lots to play with before then.
Finally, you'll start to see me sell things off. Mrs. Zoomie tricked me (she hawked her tawdry wares) in to agreeing on a strict 5 bass limit. I did manage to negotiate a 6th bass temp clause in the event of potential future fire sales.
While I was disappointed that I was unable to make the GTG, I know in my heart that at least for now, it saved me lots of money. What the monkey can't see, the monkey can't pine for. (That last sentence should have my 8th grade English teacher rolling over in her grave.)
Yesterday, I played/noodled on the Roadworn and the Franken Jazz well in to the evening. Here's my take for anyone that cares.
The Franken Jazz is fantastic, although it is not really fair to call it a Franken since the body is a 2011 Highway One and the neck is a 2011 Highway One. It was basically an excercise in how to make a 1000.00 bass for 1500.00. Yes, you read that correctly.
The Custom Shops sound great but not wet your pants great. Very round even tone. I'll probably continue to experiment with electronics. This bass needs a sound worthy of it's outrageous finish.
The Roadworn may be the best value in Fender's entire line up. I'll even go so far as to say it is worth every penny of the music store street price. If you like Jazzes at all, you will go bonkers over one of these.
In my hands, it feels like my favorite pair of fat boy shorts and the t shirt with the three holes in it that I refuse to throw away. Really weird to say, but it feels like a bass that you've been playing for 20 years.
While not a huge fan of the artifically induced roadworn look, the sound of these things are amazing. A little more mid focused than the Franken. The pick ups have this untamed, raw sound that is just incredible. You just want to dig in and make the thing bark harder.
I have only played one other which has been on the wall forever here in Kingsport. It played and sounded well enough to force me to want one. But it is an absolute pig compared the one I bought yesterday and I think that this goes beyond strings and set up.
If the Roadworn P is anything like it, I will have to run one down.

OK, be happy to show you how to fling money on an open bon fire. Since, you asked, I'll explain the whole mess from the start and how it turned in to something awesome, at least in my eyes.
A few months ago, I found a young man in town with a Fender Japan Bullet body attached to what appeared to be an early 70's vintage neck. To make it even weirder, the Bullet body had been modified in P config.
I cut a steal....I mean a deal hoping the neck was for real. It turned out to be the real deal.
After looking at insanely priced vintage bodies, I decided to do a build based on the neck using a newer body. FOund a guy on here that had a spotless 2011 Fender Hwy One Jazz body for cheap.
Well guess what, I did not like the tightness of the neck joint or lack thereof. I then put the neck on EBay which ended up selling for obscene money.
Stumbled across a brand new never used 2011 Highway One Jazz neck on Ebay. Not sure why but it ended up being a sleeper sell as I paid about 150.00 less than expected.
Because both body and neck are CNC'd, they fit together like peanut butter and jam. So snug that not even a piece of paper would fit in the joint.
I then found myself glaring at the hideous finish on the Highway One. It was flat nitro which was cool but the most unflattering shade of burgundy/wine that III had ever laid eyes on. It had to go!
In the mean time, up pops a pic on this thread of Jedi's Ray with the custom sparkle design. He pointed me to Marty Bell. I also stumbled across the design idea from a public pic of a J. It looked so clean that I had to have one.
I had some sleepless nights trying to decide between Sherwood Green and brilliant lavender sparkle. In the end, it's a Jazz. I thought that the Sherwood Green would look better on my Highway One P.
The finish is absolutely flawless. To say that I am happy with Marty's work is the understatement of the day. It is just so loud and vibrant and reminds me of the outrageous days of 70's funk.
The electronics are nothing special. I had SGD build me a passive wiring harness as my soldering sucks. I grabbed up some Custom Shop 62 jazz bass pick ups as I thought that they would be a good starting point for my taste in tone.
I got back on this beloved thread and asked if anyone knew of a good luthier in my area. FunkGenerator pointed me toward John Pytel in Elizabethton. I ent in to see John and told him I wanted it done right. Since I had pre-fit everything prior to taking down, it only took him three or so days to put it together, and that included a partial fret dressing and recrown on 6 or so frets on the neck. That took the bass from feeling good to feeling stellar !
From an objective perspective, I spent way too much money to get this done. It's probably akin to a 1000.00 bass in feel and quality. I am in it closer to 1500.00.
With that said, it is worth every penny to me. So much so that I am already planning my next Franken. I may even do up my Highway One P but I really like the flat black nitro finish with mint PG, and really dont want to mess with it.
Sorry about the long winded story. Ask me what time it is and I'll tell you how to build a watch every time.

I can tell you that it is next to impossible to catch the vibrance of the sparkle finish. It is blinding.
