I awoke this morning hoping to see someone's new bass. I
grabbed my coffee, ran over to this thread, and I have nothing but empty promises.

I'll just go ahead and say what we're all thinking. Lies ! A complete fabrication ! Not nice to lead people along. :D

Calling someone out on the internet works every single time! :hiding:

Don't toy with me, sir. I'm emotionally unstable as I awoke to discover that while Fed Ex insists that the Kilo will be delivered today, it is still in a hub in North Carolina. Boo Hisssssss ! Monday delivery.

The only thing that I have going me is that when I stopped by John's last night, I watched him start to bring the Franken Jazz to life. He told me that I could pick it up on Saturday!

70's MIJ Fender P bass w/ 1.625" nutwidth (my favorite) and tiny vintage frets (my favorite), maple fretboard (my favorite) Olympic white (....one of my favorite colors) and black blocked and bound neck for a little different look :bassist:. Still has plastic on the pickguard so it looks dull at the moment. Got this new for an insanely affordable price.... and it just may be the lightest bass I own at 8lbs even! Even my lightest US Laklands have been at least 8.5 :hyper:.

I've got lots of stuff coming for the bass to make it "my own": black Hipshot tuners and D-tuner, and a black brass Hipshot bridge (vintage-y style but heavier and better), black neckplate, black brass thumbrest to be mounted where I always rest my hand (about where a stingray pup would be), black string retainer, black neck bolts and pickguard screws, black Sadowsky-style knobs, black dunlop strap lock buttons, and a red tort pickguard. I'll take better pics after I swap everything out next week.

Ok, so I take back everything I said this morning.

It's a stunner for sure. I always had a soft spot for maple with the black black in lays. All the black hardware should add to the contrast.

Very cool ! Can't wait to see it dripping with the nes goodies.

Any plans for electronics, or does she sound sweet now?

I would have done it myself however, While its a 2011 Hwy One, and the neck is a 2011 Hwy One, they came from two different instruments. I wanted someone that knew what they were doing to carefully fit everything, set the neck, etc, for the first time. I suspect that he can spot potential problems that I would have missed, or at least been unable to correct.

I learned a lot last night. John was not only explaining what he was doing, but why he was doing it. I learned a ton.

Funk Generator recommended him.

John Pytel is a great guy. 5th generation luthier so it's ingrained in his DNA. Clearly loves all things luthier related. He spends a lot of time working on guitars so he loves when bass guys show up.

I love the fact that he'll let you watch while he has one of your babies on the bench, especially if you give him advanced notice.

He's open from 11AM to 7PM. I think that he is closed Sunday. Tell him that Funk and the weird guy with Statatory Grape bass recommended him. I'll PM you his number for future reference when I get to work.

and awesome new bass JJ! Do you still want all that old lakland hardware? If you're ever in town to talk to John, you should come by the house. John is a killer luthier!

I suppose I need pics of my new bass as well! Speaking of new basses, if i can come up with the difference I would darn near consider maxing out my credit cards for the used NJ6 on the Nordy website. I miss my old MTD 635, but I like Careys work just as much if not more! (my 635 was traded for my current nordy)

I'm probably not the best guy to do a full review since I just got back in. Be happy to toss some thoughts up after having it for a couple of weeks.

I can say that it seems to have a certain something that allowed me to stop oogling an Ampeg.

The thing is still a beast at 45 pounds but the sound makes it worth it. I just tested one and in the short time I got to play with it, seems to me that you get just about any sound out of it that you want.

Run me down some time and you can come fondle it yourself.

And you have great taste in basses. I had to look away quickly when checking out the pics or it would have cost me serious money!
